The currently installation file for x64 running Linux PowerPC (glibc 2.x) 64 Bit seemed to be big endian version, it will be not able to use in the newest Linux  distributions on IBM® Power Systems™ that Linux on IBM® Power Systems™ strategic shift from big endian to little endian. We're looking to upgrade to jBASE 6.2.1.1 but ran into a problem with printed output.  I believe I can solve this problem using SP-TRANSLATE.  Is there documentation more specific than what I could find on the website?  I would like details how to create the translation table and where it should be stored.  Thanks. Hi,  We use Oracle Pro*COBOL as part of the end to end COBOL application build solution which comprises of - Oracle 19C client with Visual COBOL 8 (patch version 19) and Visual Studio Professional 2022. We are encountering since moving from patch v14 to v19 behaviour where Oracle Pro*COBOL reports an error when processing the .pco files (PCB-S-00403 i.e.  positioning of the EXEC statement as being in the wrong Area/Column i.e. held in column 8 and should be column 12), but this error in the pre-processing does not cause the Visual Studio project to fail the build in Windows.  Running the same process in Linux using a command line driven script, the Oracle Pro*COBOL error is raised for the same issue and cause the build to halt. Question is there something missing in the Windows Visual Studio setup (or a switch I need to set in the project properties) which is not detecting the error response from the pre-processing "procob" application?  I have manually executed the Oracle Pro*COBO

I just want to express my gratitude to the compiler designers.  I love the "SET variable1 TO value1" syntax.  It makes much more sense than using the "=" operator as an assignment operator.  I can remember being confused by the use of "=" as an assignment operator since I first encountered it back in 1970.  The "SET...TO..." is so much less confusing.  That leaves the "=" operator to be used for indicating "equal" as one would expect.  I have written in more programming languages than I have fingers and toes in the last fifty years and Visual COBOL is the first one to have a reasonable assignment operator. Also want to express my gratitude that I can finally use "variable = NULL"  I understand the philosophical concepts behind the idea that "NULL" has no value and hence cannot be "equal" but we still have to compare the variables.   Like it or not, "NULL" is a value.  It is a special value but it is a value nonetheless.------------------------------Lee RobinsonSoftware Development Mana

While developing an app using OpenInsight for MV (in this case Universe) from Revelation Software Bob Carten at Revelation suggested using commuter modules to manage I Descriptors that use the SUBR call.  (Note that this approach can be used without Revelation - it just happens to be my first use-case).  To establish a convention, each MV table that uses a commuter has a subroutine in the program file that starts with "I_" for I Descriptor.  That way you can see all of these commuters grouped together when listing them.  In this example, the MV Table in Universe is called "BOOKABLE", so the commuter subroutine is named "I_BOOKABLE" and in this example we will be using the dictionary entry "DESCRIPTION" and these are the first 5 lines of that DICT: >ED DICT BOOKABLE DESCRIPTIONThis is a Type "I" Descriptor last compi20 lines long. ----: L50001: I0002: SUBR("I_BOOKABLE","DESCRIPTION")0003:0004:0005: 20L And this is the subroutine I_BOOKABLE SUBROUTINE I_BOOKABLE(RESULT,DICT_ID)*******

Our auditors needed to verify the retired object were not in any production libraries.  There may be a better way to do this, but this was my approach. I found the data I needed for the list in ACMSCTL.PRTINS. I tried using QSYS2.OBJECT_STATISTICS, but that took too long since I had to use *ALL as the library. I nosed around for the best command line option and settled on DSPOBJD.   With QSYS2.QCMDEXC, I was easily able to build the DSPOBJD command from the SQL.   This approach works fine for the system where PRTINS resides. For the production system, I needed to take the list from the first SQL and load that as the list of objects for the second SQL. Either way, I can query the same work file to get a list for the auditors.  Once I have the list of all libraries for all objects, I could use QSYS2.OBJECT_STATISTICS at this point to document last use date, source date and any other values as needed for audit purposes.    Clear the work file.   drop table if exists MYLIB.DSPOBJD; Load th

Looking for a solution/trick/etc... for the following scenario: We're running a UniVerse 10.1.22 application on AIX 5.3.0. But want to offload a certain module for real-time processing to a new Centos Stream server on a VMware platform running UniVerse 14.1.1. The plan is to have the "core " files needed  NFS mounted and exported to the other server. So that they are viewed as local files to UniVerse and the rest of the application. To move the data, I've been using rsync and planned  to continue using it to keep the Centos server data current, for my purposes it was very efficient. The problem is each time the data is synced, I have to perform a "fnuxi" on the data to perform the byte-swap. Any alternatives to doing this fnuxi each time data is synced ? Is there a certain File type I can use (Type 1 or 19) to avoid this ? Hello, we use a list as an input parameter (type string) to call a function in Postgre via SSP. While testing I found out that the list has a length limit of 254 characters. If I call the function direct in pgAdmin much longer strings can used as parameter. Is this this a known limitation? Is there a setting to raise this limit? TiA! We are running UV11.3.1 ( Pick Format ) on AIX 7200-05-08-2420  Yesterday, we started getting reports from the call centers about user's sessions freezing up. Normally, our first thought when this happens is a record lock of some kind.  If we tried to log into the application, we got to the login prompt and were able to authenticate. But once we successfully entered our userid/password to get into the application the session would hang.  We create thousands of uniobjects connections to the DB throughout the day from our web sites and IVR, and these were timing out. Unable to read data from the transport connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.[IBM U2][UODOTNET - UNIRPC][ErrorCode=81009] The RPC failed UniVerse itself was running fine. I could start new sessions and as long as I stayed on the UV account ( bypassing the application log

Hello, We have several clients who run Uniface 9 on Uniface Anywhere without any issues. All of the working environments are using either Windows Server 2012 R2 or 2016. However, a new client of ours has requested that we run it on Windows Server 2019. When running the Uniface application on the server, it works fine. But when using Uniface Anywhere, the GOLD KEY does not function properly. We have set the $SWAP_GOLD_PROFILE in the ASN file. Here are the issues we are encountering: Typing "" (Shift + 8) results in only "" being displayed. Typing "" (from the numeric keypad) results in "GOLD" (which is the only correct behavior). Typing ">" (Shift + .) results in only ">" being displayed. Typing "=" results in ">" being displayed, followed by "=". This happens even when using the same ASN file both locally and in the Uniface Anywhere application. Could this be related to Windows Server 2019? We are aware of problems with the jBASE 5.8, 5.9, and 6.1 documentation libraries that prevent some topics from being displayed. We are working with the portal vendor and our team to correct the issues as soon as possible. I have a customer who is attempting to setup a Fedex machine, connecting it to Unidata to transfer data.  The same ODBC driver works perfectly on another system.  On this system, we get odd errors and I have zero clue how to research them. For example: DataSource.Error: ODBC: ERROR [SICOO] [Rocket U2][U2ODBC][1801668]Error ID:33 Severity: ERROR Facility: DBCAPERR - The UV/ODBC server or the underlyingdatabase do not provide the requested feature.Details:DataSourceKind=OdbcDataSourcePath=dsn=upsodbc This happened when attempting to retrieve data through the 32-bit ODBC connector using a 32-bit Excel.  It was able to authenticate and return a list of table names, but when attempting to view the fields inside of the tables, this was the error.

Universe 11.3.1 running on AIX We use a sequentil file (0 bytes) "FLAG FILE" to indicate when a remote system has completed the build of a data file on the primary system.  A program on the primary  system trys to open the file, and loops until it is found (and can then start processing). Since this 'FLAG FILE" is not in the VOC, I can OPENSEQ it just fine.  But, I have not successfully found a good way to delete it.
