Note:  In a Native COBOL program, if you are using the "CLASS-CONTROL." subsection in order to define your classes (to be used in later invocations of managed classes from your native program)... note that if you have more than one class definition to be defined in class-control... that you can only use one period within this subsection.  Else (if you have more than one definition and end each with a period), you will get syntax type errors such as "PROCEDURE DIVISION missing or unknown statement" and "COBOL Division or Section header encountered in incorrect order". I have reviewed the documentation for Debugging COBOL Applications remotely, and that applies to windows applications. Are there steps or tutorials for debugging web applications thru IIS? I can get the breakpoints to work, using Remote Debugging for Windows. But the watch windows don't work. It sounds like a symbols issue, but I'm not sure how to resolve it.

Hi, Im having trouble with CBL_COPY_FILE library routine error 3385... The file is not being copied and wStat-byte2 is returning 3385. The file I'm copying though is about  107chars long (including the directories). Could that be the cause?  Anyone? Hi, I was wondering in visual cobol the files I read and write to are they in Access and Excel format?  Do I use SQL to access  these files and how to I tell the program where to look for the file.  The last part I can probablt figure out when I get the software.

I have to translate an XML with <CDATA> with BASE64 binairy data </CDATA>   into a PDF-file. Is it possible to do this with Net Express 5.1 with COBOL. When it is possible, how can I code it in COBOL-statements. I have found a program that called C$CARG for RM/COBOL. Curiosity question:  I know what a Managed Windows Application Project is, but: In Visual Studio, you can:  -> New Project -> Native -> Windows Application (?). What is a Native Windows Application Project? How is it different than, say, a Native Console Application Project? Thanks, Austin

I want to use an ActiveX control from Dynamsoft to scan documents and reading barcodes from documents. Scanning works just fine. But reading barcodes gives an error creating  ActiveX control. The samples they provide all work so I must be doing something wrong. Can someone help me with this? Please find code here

I have installed unixODBC and the Relativity client on Linux and can query the database using the relclienttest utility. However, when I attempt to query the database using isql, I get the following error: # isql -v mydsn[01000][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Can't open lib '/usr/local/liant/lib/relclient.so' : file not found[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect Needless to say, the reclient library is in the specified directory and is readable. From extensive Googling of the problem, it seems that the issue is that the Relativity client is 32 bit and isql is 64 bit: # file /usr/bin/isql/usr/bin/isql: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.18, stripped # file /usr/local/liant/lib/relclient.so/usr/local/liant/lib/relclient.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, not stripped I am aware that there is no 64 bit client for Relativity. I have a Visual Studio 2013 - Visual COBOL Managed (can I just refer to it as Visual Cobol .Net?) program that I am using to convert a string data type to a decimal data type, using the "convert" function (ignoring validation for now). Currently, I have a REPOSITORY with this:     class convertClass as "System.Convert". and in the procedural code, I am doing this:    MOVE convertClass::ToDecimal(myString)  TO myDecimal. What I want to know is how to do this using the alternate approach of using the $set ilusing directive so that I can do something like this instead:   MOVE convert::ToDecimal(myString)  TO myDecimal. I have tried it several ways ($set ilusing"System.Convert" and $set ilusing"System"), but I can't seem to get it to recognize System or System.Convert such that I can do this. Thanks

I am looking for specific examples of how, in a Managed COBOL program/class, how to convert back and forth between traditional COBOL data types (such as COMP-3, COMP-5, COMP-X ) to equivalent Net types, and vice-versa.  For example, the data file being processed in the Managed COBOL program has some of these traditional COBOL data types - I need to see how to convert them, both to and from Managed types - specific examples. I work for an Agriculture software company as a Crystal Reports Developer.  I’ve been asked to research a way that we can deliver Ad Hoc reporting capabilities to our customers.   I came from a Microsoft SQL environment and now utilizing the Micro focus tools. Considering our database structure is massive and too many fields/tables for the customers to deal with directly (support nightmare).  I was thinking I could deliver pre-defined stored procedures that included the most common fields and linkage to other supporting tables already done.  Then the end-user could write a report using these SP’s.  Come to find out Relativity would not be able to support this. The software tools that I’m familiar with is the Relativity Designer and Crystal reports.   The programmers use the RM – COBOL software.   My Question:  Is there any tools or a way to solve this with the Micro-Focus supported software?

The same problem also occurs when a 32-bit program is called by a 64-bit program or vice versa. This is also the case if a 32-bit program is executed with the 64-bit runtime or a 64-bit program is executed with a 32-bit runtime.

I have a small Project that contains 3 programs PROGA is the 'driver' and sets up a common data file and then calls PROGB which processes and then PROGB calls PROGC and further work is done PROGC then returns to PROGB which then returns to PROGA PROGA then sets up a fresh load of data and calls PRGB again, and so on This all works well and is extremely fast However, the behaviour of PROGB changes because some of it's WORKING-STORAGE values are not being loaded as intended For example, if I have the WS entry as this 77  FLAG-A   PIC  X(001) VALUE 'N'. and PROGB sets it to 'Y' during it's first run, FLAG-A is not being loaded as value 'N' when PROGB is called for the second and further times My workaround is to discover this each time and MOVE 'N' TO FLAG-A early in the processing for PROGB which works However, I most probably do not have a parameter set correctly Is there a specific way to CALL or prepare in advance a prog

We recently ran into a problem with our NetExpress apps and Windows Server 2012 R2. Runtimes suddenly slowed down by a factor of 5 to 10 times. We had clients report the same thing. Someone in the ACU Cobol form had a solution and it worked for us as well. Funny thing is some installations of Server 2012 R2 run fast without turning this TSFairShare off. Problem: By default, the CodeWatch editor collapses copybooks contained is a source file.  However, sometimes it is useful to view the contents of the copybooks expanded, in-line, in the source.
