One of my customers has a phantom named "SLEEPY" that runs continuously making nightly backups, processing transactions from a Fuelmaster pump system and producing some daily reports. Currently we start SLEEPY manually from the Centos 8 console as "root" after each startup; UniVerse 11.3.4. I would like to automate his start as part of the boot process. I think I understand the .rc command to start the UniVerse session but I'm uncertain about getting it started as "root", spawning the phantom and then logging out. I would appreciate any suggestions.Dale

i am looking for information about XMAPAppendRec beyond what is published in the BASIC Extensions Version 11.3.3 document. Specifically, I am seeking details on why the serialized output to XML omits elements when the corresponding field value in the data base is empty. I am also curious about the function appearing to only process attribute 7 of dict items instead of processing attribute 8 for correlatives and attribute 7 for conversions. If I could just "look at" the source code for the function all my questions would be answered.------------------------------Brian ArnoldprincipalRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

I do LIST filename NAME   .... and got back results -- it was pulling Attribute 4 of the file.  Which, was just odd.  Turns out filename does not have a DICT called NAMEVOC does not have a DICT called NAMESO ... where did the system FIND this dict to display attribute 4?Once I installed a DICT called NAME In either DICT filename. or  VOC, it worked as expected. But still -- where was it looking to 'find' something called "NAME" that was returning attribute 4??THANKS!------------------------------David WolvertonIndependentSunset Programming IncWaltham MA US------------------------------

We had an unusual issue where it APPEARS Attb 2 of a DIR VOC type cannot exceed a certain length.LIST / SELECT both work as expected. However, AE using an Active SELECT list or just 'raw' would return "New Item" and anything Filed would issue a WRITE error (Status =1) with a 'check for triggers' message -- which cannot be true on UD DIR types. After a while of not figuring out the issue, we moved the folder to make Attb2 of the VOC shorter and viola - the issue resolved.Does anyone know the character count allowed in attribute 2 of a DIR VOC type?  And more weirdly, why is only AE was impacted?  We might have found the issue earlier if SELECT and LIST did not work either -- as it was, we were running down to see if there were some weird permissions issues - and was about 30 minutes in when we realized the path was much longer than usual do to where the folder had been nested.------------------------------David WolvertonIndependentSunset Programming IncWaltham MA US-----------------------

Greetings, all! We're running UniVerse 11.3.4 on AIX 7.2If I remember correctly from some previous posts, UniVerse has it's own embedded version of openssl that it uses instead of the AIX version.  If that is correct, is there a way to list (or somehow look up) the ciphers that UniVerse is using? We're making https (443) API calls to a middleware server (Windows-based, running Apache Tomcat) from within the UniVerse environment and we're getting the message:    This combination of host and port requires TLS.If we make the calls over http (80), they work just fine, but we need them to be over 443.Our network folks are thinking we might have a cipher conflict (one side or the other not using the same ciphers), but I don't know how to determine which ciphers UniVerse is using.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.  Or, if anyone has seen this issue before and knows the solution to the issue, that would be even better! Thanks!Brian------------------------------Brian Paige------

Easter greetings to you  ,Anyone can point me to how to add fields that are in Universe are not showing in our SQL db tables. Please assist show steps to include the missing fields not found in SQL tables for easy access and reporting purposes. Thanks. ------------------------------Roland KayverCore Banking SupportTeachers Savings and Loan Society Limited------------------------------

I can capture output from LIST.READU command as follows:EXECUTE 'LIST.READU' CAPTURING OUTPUTEach row can be extracted by looping through using @am to determine number of rows my question is how can one parse out the individual column fields - what delimiter is used to do parsing oris  the  data in each row  simply fixed length.------------------------------robert modrichDeveloperRocket Forum Shared AccountTEMECULA CA US------------------------------

In UniVerse Basic, if we read a record, not present in a file, with locking (after each read the record is not unlocked), it looks like this: OPEN "VOC" TO VOC ELSE STOP 201,"VOC" READU RECORD FROM VOC,"LISTY" THEN    CRT "1: [":RECORD:"]" END ELSE   CRT "1: NOT ON FILE" END READU RECORD FROM VOC,"LISTY" THEN    CRT "2: [":RECORD:"]" END ELSE   CRT "2: NOT ON FILE" END READU RECORD FROM VOC,"LISTY" THEN    CRT "3: [":RECORD:"]" END ELSE   CRT "3: NOT ON FILE" END Running program, the result is: 1: NOT ON FILE 2: NOT ON FILE 3: NOT ON FILE and is as expected, but if we tray this in UniObjects ActiveX o UniObjects .Net, the result looks like this: 1: NOT ON FILE 2: [] 3: [] Oops!! The first read is as expected but the next reads return an empty record like exiting for the THEN clause rather ELSE. If we unlock the record after each read, the result become: 1: NOT ON FILE 2: NOT ON FILE 3: NOT ON FILE The result is the Basic program. Another stuff to take into account.---------------------

Hello everyone, I am trying to parse a string against a pattern and return a delimited list of tokens.  OpenQM has a Parse() function but there is no equivalent in Universe that I can see.  Has anyone done something similar? For instance, if I have something like below: string = "Give me 97 bananas" tokens = Parse(string, "0X0N0X", Char(254)) I would like tokens variable to contain "Give me ":Char(254):"97":Char(254):" bananas" Any help or suggestions would be appreciates. ------------------------------Joseph von ArxSoftware DeveloperData Management Associates Inc DMACincinnati OH US------------------------------

ODBC Driver. Good day all, thanks for the help with the previous post. Its given me plenty to work on. Along with this, I've had another issue that has risen this week. When Live Partition Mobile'ing a AIX Server, we hit problems with the OCDB driver. Namely that the server moves live with no issue, until you restart UniVerse, then we get license problems. If the server is moved back to the original machine, the license problem still occurs. So it needs to be reset. Now I know that on our Redhat VMware environments this is not a problem, and I'm sure its something that I could fix, but before I re-invent the wheel, I figured I'd ask here. At Rocket Software we are committed to and value product security.  Rocket Software continually reviews security compliance policies and trends to strengthen our products. We've  recently implemented the Rocket Vulnerability Disclosure Program (VDP) as an added measure of vigilance.  This program allows us to collaborate with valued researchers to respond to vulnerabilities found in Rocket Software products and resolve them on behalf of our customers. Recently, Rapid7 Research discovered several vulnerabilities in Rocket UniData 8.2.4 and reported them through the VDP.  Rapid7 found vulnerabilities with the UniData UniRPC server (and related services) running on the Linux platform.  Due to the nature of the MultiValue applications, Rapid7 believes that widespread exploitation of the vulnerabilities is unlikely; these services tend to be found on the backend and are rarely internet-facing.  That being said, the software stack is commonly used by large organizations to store and manage

Our ERP vendor is suggesting that the following compilation errors stem from "...a known UniBasic limitation on the number of constants. Tech Note 1193075 on Rocket Software's support site explains that there is a limit to the number of variables and constants that can be used in a BASIC program. The limits are 32767 variables and 32765 constants. However, the maximum space that constants can take up in a program is 50,000 bytes and this figure is reduced by the actual number of constants." too many constants near line 115 of...too many constants near line 121 of...too many constants near line 149 of...too many constants near line 149 of... On unidata 8.2.1 My objective is to assign a string of characters (xml code) to a variable, and then write said variable as a record on a sequential file.  However, I get the following error when attempting to compile the program if the length of the string exceeds  ~2K (I'm not certain of what that limit is precisely): It will successfully compile as long as I break up the string in chunks that stay under the limit. However, the same program has no issues reading in a string, the length of which is over 80K characters. Any suggestions would be appreciated.------------------------------Shawn WaldieManager, Enterprise Application DevelopmentRocket Forum Shared AccountLos Angeles CA US------------------------------

Hello  I would like to know, what is the position regarding NUMA enabled / disabled for a Universe database ?  It is well documented for other databases, and we would like to know if Universe is NUMA aware and what is the preferred configuration on or off.  We are talking about boxes with  512GBB RAM, 64 CPUS, and 2 NUMA nodes  thanks in advance  ------------------------------David Ricardo Lopez BonaecheaDirector of Software StrategyQuiter Servicios Informaticos SLSantander ES------------------------------

Hey All, We updated to unidata 8.2 from 8.1, and seem to have broken ssh. Everything seems fine when called from an AIX session, but Unidata sessions are failing when calling same commands... we do recieve the above message X.COMMAND = '-C !scp N19.POSPA…CALL S.EXECUTE(X.COMMAND) This code has been running for years, so any idea on where I should look? Hi guys - here with a pretty basic question... I am on universe 11.3.4 on linux redhat. We use AWForms here but that app was not able to give me what I wanted so I just wrote the report - but this company does not have a separate printer queue defined for a landscape print(which is what I'm used to). I tried using the printer command within the program but it just prints my characters: PRINT CHAR(27):"&l1O" Can someone tell me the simplest way to flip a report automatically to landscape?------------------------------Kathleen HambrickProgrammer at Colwell------------------------------
