I'm new to Uniface 10 after using Uniface 9 for a long time. When I create a component in Uniface 9 based on a template I can see the code which can then be altered on the derived component to create the functionality I want. The code which should be hidden is put in include proc's.When I create a component in Uniface 10 based on a modeled component (template) all script is hidden. I have then to guess what the script is. I could go to the template and copy and paste the script I wish to but that is a lot of work if the modeled component is complex. Is there a way to mark scripts that should be copied to the derived component so the programmer immediately can see what he can change to create the functionality he wants?Tia, John

Hi,Extracted from pdf  "Uniface 7.2 Uniface Coding standards":"Use either two or three spaces consistently for indenting Proc code innested structures—do not use tabs!"How to indent Uniface-code? Using Uniface 9.7 and the button "Format Proc in current trigger", it uses tabs. Can I change that to use spaces?Regards RogerW.

If I do have a complex struct and do have two extra struct variables "pointing" into this struct. My intention is to do some synchronisation on the two structs and for the sake of performance I like to skip this. So, how to check, if this two variables are pointing to the same branch in the global struct?IF( v_STRUCT_A==v_STRUCT_B) does not work, as UnifAce first converts the two structs to a scalar string. Okay  v_STRUCT_A->$dbgstring==v_STRUCT_B->$dbgstring would be a (not perfect) workaround. But this I want to avoid, as*  convert to DBG_STRING tooks time*  compare of long strings tooks time*  the sync is is not such longIs there any way to compare two pointers/things for identity as in other program languages?Ingo

Recently, we had the presentations of the first Creative Sprint and let me tell you it was a great success. I’ll start by taking you back in time while sharing what are the thoughts which drive this initiative. The Uniface’s lab is still a startup, yes! A 35-year-old startup in that sense. As with all startups, we thrive through the innovation that comes from the brilliant minds that continue to form the Lab throughout these years. When working on technology, one tends to adapt the new high-tech trends to produce business value. This is a creative quirk. This challenge rewards the individual with satisfaction and fulfillment. To maximize the benefit from such experience, one repeats the process with certain periodicity, making it part of the development process. In general, Agile is associated with a creative/iterative development process, following that line of thought, it is common practice in technology minded organizations to include a moment to trigger the creative spirit

I have been pointed at a github link for a cordova plugin to allow reading barcodes from a handheld bluetooth scanner on a mobile app. https://github.com/cvanem/capturesdk-cordovaI am an utter novice in all these things (github, cordova, buildozer). Can someone with more of a clue give it a look see and see if I can just include an nvm link to buildozer or otherwise how I get it accessed from within my app? Thanks in advance. Iain

Hi,I have struggled with the Uniface tree-widget for the first time and programmatically succeeded to Expand, Collapse and setting a new representation for a node. However I wonder if it's possible to dynamically set different node glyphs in the same tree. Eg, initializing the tree$TREEREPR$ = "root=·!·;NODE·!·;root·;A=root·!·;NODE·!·;A·;B=root·!·;NODE·!·;B·;B1=B·!·;NODE·!·;B1·;B2=B·!·;NODE·!·;B2·;B3=B·!·;NODE·!·;B3·;C=root·!·;NODE·!·;C" $valrep(testtree) = $TREEREPR$ testtree = "" edit ;Is it above possible to change one of the nodes to PERSONBLUE $TREEREPR$ = "root=·!·;NODE·!·;root·;A=root·!·;NODE·!·;A·;B=root·!·;NODE·!·;B·;B1=B·!·;NODE·!·;B1·;B2=B·!·;PERSONBLUE·!·;B2·;B3=B·!·;NODE·!·;B3·;C=root·!·;NODE·!·;C" I can't get this to work. I can change the representation of a node, eg. changing the text B2 to B2*, but is it possible to change some of the Node-glyphs?I can change the Node glyph of the whole tree by setting PERSONBLUE first in the form "Define Types of Tree Items&quo

I have a grid that contains more rows than are displayed.  If  I use the Pg-Up/Dn buttons, the grid scrolls and "sticks."  If I use the mouse wheel or the scrollbar arrows or drag the scrollbar chicklet with the mouse, the grid scrolls and stays positioned to where I scrolled for a moment but then scrolls back to the starting position.  Is there any way to make it "stick" when using these methods? If I'm quick to click in the grid, I can make it "stick" but this is not acceptable.Hopefully I explained this well enough.Peace,..Rob..

Blog by Jyoti SinghThe purpose of this blog is to inform you about some changes in the way widgets are documented and described.Widgets are the elements that enable the user to interact with a Uniface application. In Uniface, we recognize two types of widgets:·       Physical widgets are the implementations that provide the functionality to the user. They vary depending on the underlying GUI technology.·       Logical widgets are named configurations of the physical widgets. Developers can configure physical widgets to use specific properties/styles to create their own logical widgets.  Consequently, one physical widget can be referenced by multiple logical widgets. The available widget properties are dictated by the physical widget, and it is the physical widget that knows how to interpret properties. Logical widget definitions are defined in the [webwidgets] and [widgets] sections from the initialization f

We do have a REST-interface to a third party application (an archiv-system)The returned data is in XML format, so I use "xmltostruct" to convert to struct inside UnifAce.All working well, but ...But now I got a perforamnce issue 😔When the server returns ~150k of data, it takes over 5 seconds to convert to structs.a) is this normal?b) any other (performant) way to convert XML to structs?Ingo

Chris Breemer, long time member of the Uniface team and huge source of knowledge in the Uniface Customer Support team will soon be enjoying retirement. Before leaving, he has kindly shared his personal alternative to the Urouter monitor with us. The details can be found here on the utilities, add ons and extras page.As it is not part of anything officially Uniface, it is shared with sources for you to use and adapt to your liking.Big thanks to Chris for all his good efforts in his many years with Uniface.

Good Practices / Tips / Tricks   (under construction)although most subjects are somehow described in the Uniface Anywhere Administrator Guide, some of the subjects here may be off assistance to you.Multi-tier setupThe Uniface Anywhere Host server can handle only a certain amount of applications within acceptable levels. The amount of applications that it can handle depends a lot on how the application is setup and used by the users. There is no golden rule on how many users can simultaneously make use of the Uniface Anywhere Host, however to less processes are started on the Host, the more users can make use of one Uniface Anywhere Host.Good practice is to off-load as much processes as possible to other servers.Applicable specifically for Uniface applications that are used through Uniface Anywhere:Having the Uniface Anywhere server also processing the application business logic is obviously going to effect scalability. Application business logic could be held in the forms (displaye

Hi,what about increasing the interest in Uniface by starting a project making WebAssembly format out of Uniface code.Regards RogerW.

Hi,In the early cloud roadmap for Uniface circa 2016, there was a plan to support containerisation such as Docker as a deployment platform, is this still on the plans and if so what is the timeline?I understand you have used Docker for associated services such as LDAP etc during the revamp of the DevOps pipeline for u10, but can't see any mention of using it beyond that.  It would be really helpful to understand if this is still an intended direction for Uniface in the cloud and therefore allow us to manage a swarm of containers to deliver required capacity. Has anyone in the community tried it out of interest ?Many thanks

The Uniface Support number 1-800-787-76788 (800-SUPPORTU) rings a Bank of America Customer Service line. What is the correct number for the Uniface Support? The Uniface site has this number published and should be corrected or removed.

The download link (http://go.uniface.com/unifacefreetrial) for the Trial Version of Uniface leads to a blank page and no download starts. The link should be corrected.
