Coming on August 26: Uniface 10.4.04 Service Pack
Planned release date: August 26, 2026
Uniface 10.4.04 is on its way; a service pack focused on hardening network security and refreshing supported platforms. We're announcing it ahead of release, so you have time to prepare. If you manage a Uniface estate, the changes below will affect your infrastructure planning, so please read through and plan accordingly before the release date.
Security: closing out legacy TLS and weak ciphers
This service pack removes support for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 across all Uniface network traffic. Due to their well-documented security vulnerabilities, both protocols have been deprecated by major browsers, operating systems, and security standards bodies and are no longer considered secure. Once applied, Uniface will require TLS 1.2 or higher for all encrypted connections.
Alongside this, weak ciphers will be removed from network traffic. Only ciphers that meet current security standards will be accepted going forward.
What this means for you: if any part of your Uniface environment, servers, load balancers, proxies, or client machines, still relies on TLS 1.0/1.1 or older cipher suites, those connections will stop working once you apply this service pack. Check your infrastructure now and update TLS configurations where needed, ahead of the release.
Platform support changes
As part of our regular platform lifecycle management, the following will no longer be supported from Uniface 10.4.04:
Operating systems
-
Windows 10
-
IBM i 7.4
Databases
-
MS SQL Server 2014, 2016, and 2017 (Uniface U5.0, U5.1, U5.2)
-
Informix Client SDK 4.1 (Uniface U5.B)
Middleware and client tools
-
JRE/JDK 8
-
Sentinel license manager v9
-
Internet Explorer 11
If you're running any of these, plan your migration to a supported equivalent before the release date. Continuing to run unsupported platforms will leave you without security patches and without vendor support if something goes wrong.
Solaris installation code update
The Solaris installation code will change from SOF to SOG, reflecting a new minimum Solaris Release Update (SRU) requirement of SRU90. If you deploy Uniface on Solaris, check your SRU level now and plan to update the installation code you reference in your build and deployment scripts.
Azure SQL Managed Instance driver update
Azure SQL Managed Instance will move to the MSS U5.4 driver. Plan to update your driver configuration accordingly if you connect to Azure SQL Managed Instance.
New: OpenTelemetry support on Solaris
OpenTelemetry support is coming to Solaris (SOG), bringing this platform in line with the observability capabilities already available elsewhere in the Uniface product line. You'll be able to instrument and monitor Solaris-based Uniface applications using the same OpenTelemetry tooling you use across the rest of your estate.
Tomcat and Java version updates
This service pack will also update the versions of Tomcat and Java supplied with the Uniface distributions, to Tomcat 10.1.57 and Java 17.0.19+10.
For the Windows 32-bit distribution, we'll be supplying a 64-bit JRE for the out-of-the-box web development experience, in line with Oracle's direction for Java. If you rely on XSLT transformation or Java Call In, which requires a 32-bit JVM, you'll need to supply your own 32-bit Java installation, as this will no longer be bundled.
Uniface UX: model-defined labels in the browser
The Uniface UX interface will be updated so that labels defined in the model are available in the browser. The Uniface UX widgets will be enhanced to make use of this, so labels you define at the model level will carry through consistently into the rendered UI without extra configuration.
What you should do next
-
Audit your TLS and cipher configuration across servers, proxies, and clients that connect to Uniface.
-
Check your platform inventory against the removed support list above.
-
Plan upgrades for any unsupported OS, database, or middleware component well ahead of 26 August.
-
Solaris customers: confirm your SRU level meets SRU90 and prepare to update installation code references from SOF to SOG.
-
Windows 32-bit customers using XSLT transformation or Java Call In: plan to source and install your own 32-bit JRE, as it will no longer be bundled.
Full details will be available in the release notes when Uniface 10.4.04 ships on August 26. In the meantime, our support team is on hand if you have questions about your upgrade path.
