Hi We recently upgraded from Visual Cobol 2.3 for Visual Studio Community 2015 to Visual Cobol 8.0 for Visual Studio Community 2022 on Windows 10.  Uninstalled VC 2.3 and VS 2015 first.  Also, installed Update 9 of Visual Cobol and  VS 2022 v 17.7.2.  Made copies of all projects and changed the Target framework from .NET Framework 4.5.2 to 4.6.2 in all projects, because 4.5.2 is no longer supported.  Application is a Windows forms app.  There are now some problems with version 8.0: 1. Accessing properties/methods on data items defined in another .cbl (eg objects on a form where the objects are instantiated in the .designer.cbl) the data item is coloured differently in the editor In V2.3: set litem-butt-amend::Enabled to false In V8.0 set litem-butt-amend::Enabled to false In V8.0 the data item shows as green.  This does not happen in the .designer.cbl.  I cannot find a setting in Fonts and Colors to fix this. 2. I'm trying to debug a batch COBOL program.  It stops on entry to my initial module, but when I push F5 it doesn't go to the next instruction, it runs to the end.  I've got breaks in called program so tried F8 and it also runs to the end.  This worked (F5 going to next instruction and F8 running to break) until the middle of last week.  This morning I had another developer open my project and submit the job.  For him F5 does step through the program.  So he closed and I opened and still doesn't work for me.  We both did a printenv and compared our environment variables and the only differences where our session ID and folders we are linked to.  

I saw a post that was created many years ago (https://community.rocketsoftware.com/forums/forum-home?CommunityKey=fc99efc3-3189-48e3-860f-01928efec020 about only compiling changed source.  I have a NetExpress project that was loaded into Visual Studio 2017 and converted to Visual COBOL 4.0.  The project contains hundreds of cbl files.  If I change only one of the cbl files and click BUILD on the project, I would expect only that one changed cbl to compile (into a GNT) but instead all cbls in the project start compiling.  Is this expected behavior?  #VisualCOBOL#VisualStudio

Hello I'm testing iCLuster in a pre-production machine by restoring a lot of updated files from User Acceptance Test system to pre-PRD system while turning off replication group. Then run DMMRKPOS and start the group with the marked position *YES.  Then I start Sync Check on the group and found around 3,000 OOS objects reported : When I do WRKACTJOB on primary system, there are several iCluster jobs running eating up a total of not more than 35% CPU power of P9 2-core PRD machine. CPU % Busy is less than 10% on the backup node DR machine (same HW capacity as PRD).  When I press F5, the OOS count reduce slowly. My question is whether there is a way available in iCluster's parameters that I can, say, increase the number of iCluster jobs doing OOS Activation task to speed up the process? Users sometime report issues where the ChangeMan ZMF user interface (UI) has told them that a certain function has been completed, and/or a job has been submitted, but the resultant task or job never actually finishes. For example, a user submits a package audit job from the ISPF UI and receives the following messages: AUDIT JOB SUBMITTED/CMN2600I - The job to audit this package has been submitted. Or a user in the ZMF4ECL UI sees the following in their Notification view after submitting a component build request: CMN8700I – Component Build service completed – Package(DEMO000999) Type(SRC) Component(PGM1) Jobname(USER01A) However, the audit and component build requests in the above examples never complete. So, where should you begin investigation into such an issue? I tried to activate the U2 python option using the command from the manual. This is what it returned. $ ./bin/uvregen -p PY:1.uvconfig: Permission denieduvregen: error during regen, process abortedUniVerse becomes un-authorized due to license change!Configuration Code:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXX That's a scary response. Is it un-authorized now? It's still working but is this going to blow up when I reboot? I'm hoping not and that the real issue is that I didn't execute the command as sudo. I am creating an API using the python fastapi library.  The API is running pick programs off the back of the various endpoints using the u2py library.  There is an alias setup to ensure the universe python is being run rather than any other version.  We change dir at os level before running u2py commands.  This all works fine when the universe account has no menu in the login paragraph, otherwise it's getting stuck in the menu.  An example code snippet below works if I run from python prompt at universe level but not if i run python from linux level.  I think it's the @TTY I need to somehow set to 'phantom' stop it ending up in the menu, any thoughts how to achieve this? import u2pyimport os os.chdir('/opt/universe') f_UV_ACCOUNT = u2py.File('UV.ACCOUNT')------------------------------Neil SherwoodAnalyst ProgrammerHSBC Global Services (UK) LimitedLondon GB------------------------------

Hello! Unidata 8.2.3 on Windows 2019. Im using putty and cmd and when i attempt to do a LIST on anything it will output results with the prompt "press enter to continue" once i do that it removes the results it just gave me and outputs the next 10 results or so until the LIST is complete. Im hoping there is a setting that would make it so that it would NOT remove the results in the LIST so that i could scroll up and see all results. any ideas on this?

I'm with a system integrator helping a bank replace its current core bank with a new one on IBM i and iCluster is used for replication from DC to DR machines.  We have installed the new DC and DR machines and is now in pre-production test phase.   My customer's IT team comes up with a test scenario for testing iCluster like this : 1) A few bank tellers enter test transactions they prepare in advance (open new accounts, deposit, withdrawal, etc.)  in DC machine while iCluster in running. 2) After 15 minutes, my customer cut the data link between DC and DR machines but all tellers continue enterining test transactions until they are finished (expect to be some 40 minutes more). 3) When telllers finish entering test transactions, DC-DR data link is restored. 4)  The customer waits until I confirm to them that the replication of all test transactions from DC are replicated to DR machine is complete before they shut down core bank application in DC and start it in DR machine and check if t

From the screen of iCluster's WRKCSMON command, I notice only one file being suspended.  This file is being journalled to iCluster's HADJRN journal.  (Most files have their own journals created by the application itself.)  When I look at iCluster job (with a name of the replication group I create) at the Backup node that covers this suspended file, I find many instances of the following message in its job log : Message ID . . . . . . :   CPF4759       Severity . . . . . . . :   30      Message type . . . . . :   Sender copy                                      Date sent  . . . . . . :   25/08/23      Time sent  . . . . . . :   22:15:01                                                                            Message . . . . :   Write operation to member PZFACTJB failed. I use VcPE free 1 yr trial for teaching COBOL at the local community college.  I've uninstalled all older versions and now have VS2022 Community and VcPE 9.0 installed. I can't get past the license issue(s): When trying to create a new cobol project, I get then when trying to get the MF VcPE license in using the xml file, it doesn't accept it and I get: I've uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired both . . . tried MF Support, but the trials don't get support anymore. I've got 25 students with the same issue and I have to get everyone up and running ASAP. Any suggestions are welcome.  VcPE educational trial has worked in the classroom for me for more than 10 yrs.  I liked it because it exposed the student to VS, MIcrofocus, and cobol - a boon for them when they go into the workforce. Hi, I had  a remote server which had AcuServer installed, and some COBOL sources existed. I hope to use the compiler installed in another host to compile the remote COBOL sources which had COPY files statements. In the Extend/AcuCOBOL documentation,  -Sp With this option you can specify a series of directories to be searched when the compiler is looking for COPY libraries. This option is followed (as the next separate argument) by the set of directories to search. See COPY Libraries for more information. The acurfap syntax can be used to specify a location on a system being served by AcuServer or AcuConnect. Hello  UV 11.3 on Windows,  His anyone understand the WARNING: Old style truncated data level name "FORTRAE/MARLA.TRAE.104" detected.  on open file.  The VOC is a classic multi-data level defn, where the dalalevel filename is really  MARLA.TRAE.104.... Any idea ? Mamu

I have many account that I work with (UV 11.3.4). I am looking into using BDT and it works fine for a single account. All features work. However if I try to move to another account I get an error message stating: Could not change account to ### on server ###. The account path does not exist, or you do not have enough privileges to access the account path. I close BDT and re-open BDT and I can open the account just fine.  Am I doing something wrong here? We tried using Visual Code, however there were issues we could not overcome. Jon

Hi We are upgrading from Visual Cobol 2.3 for Visual Studio Community 2015 to Visual Cobol 8.0 for Visual Studio Community 2022, on Windows 10 pc’s.  I know where to get the downloads from, just have some questions: Do we need to manually uninstall Visual Studio 2015 before we install Visual Studio 2022, or is this something that is done automatically in the installation?  Will we be prompted to uninstall Visual Studio 2015 during the installation?  Will the older version simply be replaced? Similarly for Visual Cobol: is it necessary to uninstall Visual Cobol 2.3 first, or is this handled in the installation?  Will we be prompted to uninstall Visual Studio 2.3 during the installation?  Will the older version simply be replaced? Do we need to revoke the license in Visual Cobol 2.3, giving an authorization code, and then enter the code after Visual Cobol 8.0 is installed, or will the license automatically carry over from version 2.3 to 8.0?  I imagine

Have a question about transaction processing/commits/boundaries etc and the compatibility with file triggers. Can the two co-exist? I have a feeling the answer will be no but thought i should ask. Are there any "How To" manuals for AccumTerm  as I am in reality a new user, who did developed good screen 5 years ago but the customer did not what to change then. Now they are all for it but I can get the basic's out of the manuals and feel completely lost and out of the loop
