Historically, multi-value environments have been somewhat lax in enforcing use of locks when updating files. The locking system is voluntary and, if applications choose not to use locks, data integrity issues may arise. Two processes performing a read/modify/write update of the same record may overlap with one overwriting the other.There is a simple rule that eliminates this problem. Never write or delete a record without locking it first. This could be a simple update lock that protects the specific record or a file lock that effectively locks all records in the file.It is important to understand the significance of the locking system being voluntary. A badly written program that updates a record without locking it is not affected by the locks set by well written programs that follow the rules.This situation should never have been allowed. Attempting to write or delete a record without a lock should lead to some form of application error, however, such a rule cannot be retrospectively

Trying to install Enterprise Developer on a mounted drive resulted in the product and license managers installed in the root directory but wanted to have it installed in the default location of /opt/microfocus/EnterpriseDeveloper/70Following the steps in this article will install the product and license managers separately (otherwise license managers in this instance also go to the root directory which is to be prevented here) in the directories. Beginning with Visual COBOL V6.0 Visual COBOL supports the DECLARE statement in native code. This allows you to declare one or more local variables within the procedure division body. The scope of any inline local variable is from the point of declaration until the end of the innermost containing block, where paragraphs, sections and the whole method are considered to be blocks. This support was already in managed .NET/JVM programs although in managed code the local data items are statically scoped, but (unlike managed COBOL local items) they are not perform-range-local: if you re-enter a paragraph or section, fresh copies of any associated local data items are not created. When working in Unidata, I was able to toggle on a display of each executed line as they were executed. What is the equivalent command in Universe please?In Unidata at the debugger command, I would type 'V' to view source before executing the line. In Universe, I can type I or L to show the source line (or Z to display the next 10), but this isn't a toggle. It only does the one line you are on it seems. In Unidata, once the V was toggled 'on', I could do a command to execute the next 50 instructions and would see the source of each line for those 50.  So my question is, how can I see the source for each line executed without typing in the 'L' at every line? I am working on a migration from U9.6 to U10.4  - however, origin of the app is U5.As there are quite some command which are marked as deprecated or, even worse, are no longer supported ("print_break", "field_video"...), I need a complete list of all warnings. I need a help. In my application I need to get the first row out of the Select query execution through COBOL. I know the SELECT will return many rows but I only want the first row. I can not use Cursors as it can degrade the performance.

Hi allI'm trying to work with a session pool in uopy and I'd like to be able to switch between different sessions as it can be done using the command ic_setsession in the uvic32.dll API.I create them in this fashion: sesiones = [] for i in range(10): sesiones.append( uopy.connect(host='...', user='...', password='...', account='...', encoding='cp850', service=uopy.UV_SERVICE, port=31438)) Is there a way to do this?How can I make sesiones[i] the active session at will?------------------------------Hector CortigueraRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

Hello, Is there any way we can use the AWS Tags on job level while we migrate from mainframe to MF ES on AWS? Currently the job level accounting info is being used for charging individual line of business and towers, and we need a similar facility to know how to chargeback the line of businesses and their applications based on Compute, or Storage consumption. I am starting to use the GoAnywhere RUNPROJECT command in a CLLE.  When I try to compile within the tool formerly know as Aldon, I get a compile error as the command is not in the standard library list.  I cannot use a qualified call for RUNPROJECT because the command is not in the same library on the development and production systems, GACLIENT vs GOANYWHERE.  How do I get around an object, in this case a command, not being in the standard libraries. Problem: How to make a Dialog System entry field read-only at runtime? Resolution: There may be an occasion where you have an entry field that you want to disable but allow the user to click on the field or be able to select the text and copy it. Disabling the field  or making it a DISPLAY-FIELD won't allow the user to select it though. One way to do this is to use the Dsobjcfg Dialog System Extension. You can use the CALLOUT function to call Dsobjcfg in order to dynamically alter properties of certain objects, including entry fields. See the Dialog System Help topic "Calling DSOBJCFG" for the implementation details.   The attached demo has 3 radio buttons that allow you to select the entry field that you want to be read-only.
