I've set up a very simple Console Application project in Visual Studio running Visual COBOL 2.2. Program1 initializes a group level redefine and then passes it to Program2. In Program2, it appears that the field within the group that was not used in Program1 was not actually initialized. Why would this be? I expect the second display in Program2 to show PROGRAM2, FIELD-2B is empty. However, it shows the field has the value "ST" unless the second display in Program1 is uncommented. PROGRAM-ID. PROGRAM1. DATA DIVISION. WORKING-STORAGE SECTION. 01 GROUP-1. 02 FIELD-1 PIC X(4). 01 GROUP-2 REDEFINES GROUP-1. 02 FIELD-2A PIC X(2). 02 FIELD-2B PIC X(2). PROCEDURE DIVISION. MOVE "TEST" TO GROUP-1. INITIALIZE GROUP-2. DISPLAY "PROGRAM1, FIELD-2A: " FIELD-2A. * Uncomment the following display to see FIELD-2A passed to PROGRAM2 initialized * DISPLAY "PROGRAM1, FIELD-2A: " FIELD-2B. CALL "PROGRAM2" USING GROUP-1. GOBAC
I have Visual Cobol Personal Edition I had an Internet outage on my Win/8 laptop and could not open Project1 (I am trying to 'get started' with this product) Once the connection was made true again, I could open Project1 Why is that?
Problem: All Windows services are normally started before the non-Windows ones. In one reported case, one or some Windows services were not started for an unknown reason before other non-Windows services, such as the Micro Focus License Manager service. Having the MF License Manager service started before the Windows ones causes an unexpected result. For instance, a COBOL application may fail to run and report the following error:"No license is installed for Micro Focus Server. Either install a license key using AppTrack or contact your system administrator or your application supplier." You may find the licenses with the correct information in AppTrack under the License List menu as shown below:License units: 01000Duration: UnlimitedSerial no: 600000******License no: 01280 **** ***** ****. .... However, the "Current usage" menu may list nothing as if there was no license installed. Resolution: You need to contact Microsoft to get all the Windows services to start in timely manner. In
Is there a way to tell Eclipse that Echo is a reserved word for Accept Statements, which it is for RM Cobol (Until I remove them all). Either Eclipse tells me that every ECHO is an error, or I add Echo to the Working Storage, which makes Eclipse happy, but then the Program won't build because I have a Reserved Word in Working Storage ... I can ignore the Error messages for ECHO, but we have a prompt heavy system, and I won't be able to use Eclipses find error features. I just need to tell Eclipse that ECHO is ok, for now. #SyntaxErrors#rm#VisualCOBOL#Eclipse
I am running windows 8.1 with Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate. When I try to install Visual Cobol I am getting the following errors 0x80048bc7. Am I correct in assuming that VS2013 is the cause of my issue?
Hello, I was looking on product documentation for different platforms accepted to install the runtime, and i barely see windows and unix. Anyone knows if is there a runtime for iOS, Android or any other OS? Thanks afterwards#runtime#supported#install#OS

Getting this error on installation after I have switch development laptops. Current VC version is 2.2.01220. Is there an update to the COBOL server that I need for the client or another issue. Thanks Kevin Peters
We need to communicate with a large group of devices via TCP/IP (around 100 card swipe units on various gaming units). These will be randomly used throughout the day based on customer activity, so we need to listen to all of them simultaneously. Most of our application is written in AcuCOBOL compiled with and running on "extend 9.2.2 ECN-4266". We tried setting up threads within the runtime to listen for this input, but the CPU usage shot up to 100% after just trying to listen to 2 or 3 units. I'm writing a desktop app using "Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows Desktop" with BackgroundWorker threads for each TCP/IP communication connection to keep the user I/O responsive. I have a COBOL program (CardNet) that will take input from the VS program and handle the file I/O and business logic and send a response back to the unit (pass/fail, remaining balance, trigger tokens, etc.). I compiled the COBOL program using the following: D:\\ACU922\\ccbl32 -Ds -Za
Greetings, I had recently requested a download of Visual Cobol. However when I clicked on the link I was taken to a 404-error page. When I reported this back to the origination email an automated response directed me here for assistance....
You should have received the license files as part of your order. These files have the format xxxxxxx.mflic. Save this file to the machine where they must be installed. Open the License Administrator, go to the “Install” tab, browse the mflic file, click on Open and then Install Licenses. Alternatively, you can drag/drop the mflic file onto the license file box or copy/paste the licenses into the box below: If the license is successfully imported, you should get the following message: You should now be able to see the license installed in the Summary tab: If in the future you need to move the license to another station, just click on Remove and the license will be uninstalled. If you have concurrent licenses installed in a server and you need to point the clients to the server, please follow these steps from the client machine: 1. Open the License Administrator> go to Options> Advanced C
in Visual Basic to improve readability of code you can define regions like #Region "Tab1_Instructions" method-id read... method-id write... etc. #End Region which are collapsible. Is there an equivalent in Visual Cobol? Just collapsing methods is no real alternative.#region
A few of our customers have reported an "index out of bounds" error that occurs randomly. If they get the error, they can recreate the steps and the program will work properly. We added what should be unnecessary logic, but these few customers are still getting the error. When they report the error, it is happening in different parts of the code (based on the address). We are using 9.2.2 ECN-4266 32-bit runtime and compiler. We compile with the following options:D:\\ACU922\\ccbl32 -o D:\\CBL800\\@ -Cr -Ds -Za -lfo ShaneLFO.txt %1 The reports are coming in from customers running Windows XP 32-bit with SP3 as well as customers running Windows 7 with SP1. Hi, I'm an SW architect and we are moving our legacy cobol to Visual Cobol under Jboss. This legacy application has a custom persistence layer which is generated using a custom tool. Which are my options if I want to remove this custom persistence layer? Hibernate? OpenESQL? Isn't there something like hibernate for Cobol? Thank you, Mats

Is there away to install the Visual Cobol documention into the Visual Studio 2012 IDE? I have downloaded 2 files from the MicroFocus website, one has a .jar extention and the other a .chm extension but I can't figure how to install either one into the IDE. The webbased training shows it installed in Visual Studio 2010 but 2012 is different. Thanks
Does anyone know of a way to have a variable occurs clause in the screen section. Example : old method 05 OCCURS 15 TIMES. new method 05 OCCURS WS-MAX-LINES TIMES Where WS-MAX-LINES TIMES is a field in working storage defined as PIC 9(2).
I am going through the Web based training. In module 1 Visual Cobol Getting Started there are 3 DEMO's listed in the table of contents, but when I select any of them nothing happens, the area to the right of the screen is blank. Am I missing something? Thanks
I don’t get the correct format when binding a decimal value in a DataGrid Column with ConverterCulture=de-CH. I think that the resulting format is correct for Germany but not for Switzerland. Can anybody help?
Hello - we're considering a webinar series focusing on OO COBOL for use in .NET and JVM. We'd look to start from the ground up, covering basic concepts through to UI modernization. If you'd attend such a webinar series please state that in the attached poll. Many thanks [Poll]
The default port for acuserve is 6523 is anyone aware of there being issues with a Windows 2012 not recognising port numbers greater than 6000? the configuration line for the data uses @192.168.1.12:d:\\data\\lfiles where the IP address is the address of the main Network card. The system returns a 9D103 error. if I launch Acuserve and do a query on the Ip address and port 6523 I get a Socket Error 10060. BUT if I use the PPP Adaptor RAS IP address then everything is okay?? Any help greatly appreciated Graham
