We ran into this recently and I thought I'd share. In the legacy/character version of our software, we normally prompt for dates using a two digit year (mm-dd-yy), iconving and oconving as needed.  Recently, a user entered "12-31-33" as a date.  The iconv returned -12418 (12-31-1933) rather than the expected value of 24107 (12-31-2033).  After researching this we discovered that Pick/Rocket and QM both default to dates entered with 2 digit years greater than 30 to be in the 1900's, years less than 30 as assumed to be in the 2000's  Note: iconving a date with a 4 digit year always returns the correct value..  QM does have a config setting that will allow you to override the cutoff, however rather than remembering to change the config setting every few years on every user system, we opted to add code to our legacy system that checks the iconv'ed value and adjusts it as needed.------------------------------Ben CramerOwnerDealer Solutions LLCMansfield TX US------------------------------

Hi allSimple question here on callx - D3 on Windows:I'm trying to do a simple "catch" whenever someone edits a file. So, I write a simple subroutine and compile it and flash compile with 'o' option (per documentation) I add the call to attribute 8 in the dict entry of the file: and proceed to ed(it) an item expecting my subroutine to trigger - but it doesn't WHY? Is there anything I'm missing? The subroutine is: (really complex :)) I'll just leave this here for constructive comment - ThanksStefano

We've just posted a video on our Rocket YouTube channel that give you a guided tour on installing mvBase v3.3.2 and applying one-off patches. Content was provided by our mvBase Support specialist, Claude Marinelli. The recording was narrated by Mark Puchalski from our Support department. This is a really good one to watch, especially if you're an mvBase novice like me. I intend to use this content myself to broaden my support expertise.Click here to access the video.------------------------------Brian S. Ever had trouble installing D3 Linux using D3_setup? We've just posted a series of videos on our Rocket YouTube channel that give you a guided tour on making D3 Linux installation MUCH easier by bypassing the use of D3_setup's Configuration menu and loading D3 dependencies manually. This is based on some Knowledge Base articles previously posted to the Rocket Community Portal. There are six videos in the series, the first one being the longest at just over eight minutes in length, the rest being much shorter. They cover the D3 Linux pick0 file and how those elements relate to the items on the D3_setup config menu. They also cover using fdisk, parted and other Linux utilities to create raw disk partitions and logical volumes for use with D3, as well as using the yum utility to load D3's dependent packages.Click here to access the playlist.------------------------------Brian S. Hi allHas 10.4 (or lower)  got the ability (function) to create (and read) JSON ? (I know that OpenInsight has) If not, is anyone prepared to share their version of such a function that they may have created?I have written something to extract System Builder screens to convert them (into JSON) to HTML pages (using Python) but it may be interesting how others have approached this.Thanks------------------------------Stefano GallottaManaging MemberSimply Red Open SystemsMilnerton ZA------------------------------

i am looking at a possible job that uses jBase (my favorite of all the pick versions) anyway the last time I used jBase jim idle was the owner of jBase.I LOVED his story of how him and the "fat bloke" wrote jBase ........anyway is there a trial version I can download to start refreshing myself before the interview?thanksdougc------------------------------Doug ChancoUniverse ProgrammerSelf Registeredgraham NC US------------------------------

Morning All (South African Time!),I seem to remember Rocket provides an easy way to load the necessary services to enable auto start on reboot - I have limited desire & knowledge to get on First Name terms with systemctl :)I did look through the Installation Guide but didn't find anything there.Any bright ideas appreciated or even pointing me to the documentation I may have missed.CheersTom------------------------------Tom PowerOwnerPower Business SystemsBenoni ZA------------------------------

cHi AllD3 10.4 on Redhat LinuxCaution: DO NOT change the hostname in /etc/hosts AFTER you have installed D3! Sadly, connections to D3 with subsequently be "refused" - and you'll likely break out in a cold sweat as I did :( (Unless someone can advise me otherwise) Does the "reference" to localhost appear in any config record - which will explain my finding? If not this should be noted (in the manual!)------------------------------Stefano GallottaManaging MemberSimply Red Open SystemsMilnerton ZA------------------------------

Docker ContainersjBASE is officially Docker certified! With a single command, you can pull down a working jBASE image from the Docker Hub and have your jBASE application up and running in a container. What used to take days can now be accomplished in seconds - it really is that easy. With Docker, you can package every piece of your application and database into lightweight, portable containers that build themselves. If you have ever built a MultiValue environment from the ground up, you know it is a long process. Our Docker images bundle everything you need - from Linux to jBASE - to get your application working with the click of a button. Can you containerize a MultiValue database from one of our competitors? Probably. But chances are good it will still look and act like a monolithic virtual machine. jBASE is the only MultiValue database that can be broken down in the true spirit of containers with your database and application running in separate Docker containers. What is a Container?A

The following changes apply to the Windows installer for jBASE release 5.8: Compiler installation is treated as a prerequisite and is prompted for first. If compiler installation is skipped the user will receive a warning to confirm that this is intentional. After accepting the license agreement, the Microsoft Visual C Runtime is installed, and some temporary files needed by the installer are unpacked. After selecting an installation type (Express or Advanced) and the installation directory (JBCRELEASEDIR), there is a new prompt to select the jBASE Global directory (JBCGLOBALDIR). Beginning with release 5.8.0, all configuration files and some other common files have been moved from JBCRELEASEDIR to JBASEGLOBALDIR. In this way, upgrading to newer jBASE releases is simplified because the configuration information is stored independent of the jBASE release. License keys are no longer entered during installation. Follow instructions included with your license document for entering license

Everyone out there know about D3's SET-DATE-WINDOW utility? It's something you can add to your cold start procedure to change the 2-digit year pivot point from 30 to something else. Example if you ICONV a date like 8/1/31, you'll get an internal date in the year 1931, not 2031 as you might expect. I have this in my USER-COLDSTART:SET-DATE-WINDOW 60This tells my D3 system to assume that any two-digit years from 00 to 59 are 2000 to 2059, where 60 to 99 are 1960 to 1999. This is a LOT handier than handling it in your application.I'm posting this because there's a lot of useful stuff in D3 that I was unaware of until I became a Rocket employee and was actually forced to read the manual. Maybe some of you are in the same boat.https://www3.rocketsoftware.com/rocketd3/support/documentation/d3nt/103/refman/index.htmhttps://www3.rocketsoftware.com/rocketd3/support/documentation/d3server.jsp------------------------------Brian S. Hi, all. I used to work for a Rocket UniData client who was able to restrict permissions on production in such a way that for designated production logins, it was not possible to write to disc. One could use the editor, but not file the record; no compiles or catalogs; no file creation; etc. Is there a documented way of setting up this feature? [It has obvious implications for SOX compliance.]------------------------------Ken CibellideveloperRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

We're ready for the next round of testing of D3 Linux v10.4 Port!! Since the last round of testing, we have been working hard to make a more complete product. We have addressed a number of bugs, but more exciting than that is that we have added the FSI to our UNIX implementations. This allows us to offer the most highly horizontally scalable multi-value solution on the Unix platforms as we have previously offered on Windows. By decoupling the FSI and VME environments, you can achieve a more seamless cloud experience. Creating a docker instance of your application server (VME) while still utilizing a singular shared Database (FSI) can give you easily deployable instances of your application. If you are interested in assisting us with this exciting newly-architected product, please reply to this post, or email trude@rocketsoftware.com. We are looking forward to working with you again.------------------------------Brian S. CramPrincipal Technical Support EngineerRocket Software-----------

Hi allJust your thoughts on how much memory should be allocated to a system with < 20 users? (NO Flash basic - Linux D3 (Ver 7.4))The users are complaining that the system is "slow" with 2.62144 TB. (yes you read correctly 2.62144 Terra Bytes) !In my opinion, this is FAR TOO much - and should be reduced to say 16 GB otherwise there is the chance of (per manual) "High values can result in poor performance of other UNIX processes due to inadequate remaining memory."What say you?------------------------------Stefano GallottaManaging MemberSimply Red Open SystemsMilnerton ZA------------------------------
