Rocket® D3® and jBASE®

I have a client who started their business on R83 and are now on D3 Linux. All of their USERS were created long before D3 and by my former partner. In every account on this particular system, regardless of where you are, a CTRL-BREAK re-executes the MD item - BASIC or PROC - when you type END from the debugger. I reached out to Rocket support and was unable to get a solution, so I poked around in my old reliable R83 manual and found that if Attribute 9 in the USERS item is set to R, that's exactly what will happen. If it's set to L, then END leaves the user at TCL. The moral? As the result of the post by Bryan Buchanan I have started have a look at the Java API to interact with D3. I'm working on AlmaLinux 8.9 with D3 10.4 installed. I have downloaded the file MVSPJavaAPI.zip and successfully compiled and used then MVSPJavaAPI/mvspTest/mvspTest.java program. The program connected instantly and all data accesses were instant. Using that as my basis I created a console program but ran into an issue with connecting. The connection in my program is taking 2 to 3 seconds to complete. Data access is instant after the connection occurs. At the same time I am seeing the following message lines in /var/log/messages: Mar 10 20:49:13 Alma8 systemd[1]: Started D3's per connection MVSP server for pick0 (127.0.0.1:53850). Good afternoon, D3 hosted on a Windows 2008R2 Server I have recently learned how to add printers to the D3 user-coldstart macro. This is the third printer I have added. The two previous are working perfectly. The last printer I created using a Brother printer (PCL) Windows driver. However all the text coming out of the printer starts with %!, which is an indicator of a postscript text stream. This causes pages of postrscript text to spew out of the printer. I have tried:  changing the driver removing and adding the queue again using a new queue (eg; added a new port 15 and 16) no difference We have 14 printers that work, this one is giving me fits. Hi all, Apologies if I am in completely the wrong place! We have an application running on D3 and have a linked server set up in our MSSQL server using the D3 ODBC. When selecting a date column I'm getting the below error. Google tells me I need to convert it to a string somehow, but I'm not sure of the functions in D3 to achieve this. Any help would be much appreciated! I have quite a few customers running Rocky Linux as their OS for D3. Every single one of them has the same problem. A reboot of Linux, not a total shutdown, changes the designation of the USB drives that they use for nightly on-site backups. What was /dev/sdb might come up as /dev/sdd on a reboot. Since they are designated in the PICK0 file for FILE-SAVES, this creates a major problem. There is a command in D3, RENAME-FILE, which changes the name, but does not appear to change the name in Processes where that particular file, or data from it is used. Is there a straightforward way to change all references to the file where it is accessed throughout the system? Thanks

I'm seeking a way to ascertain where jBASE is verifying login credentials via an AccuTerm script, or at least show a verbose log or trace of the connection attempt. An AccuTerm 7.3a user logs into their workstation using domain credentials. Those same credentials have been stored by AccuTerm in the workstation's user registry for use when connecting to the jBASE server. The jBASE login fails; jBASE then offers a different login scenario (possibly using local user credentials?), requiring manual entry of the credentials, which succeeds. These are the same credentials saved in the registry and Active Directory. AccuTerm 8.1. behaves similarly. This is jBASE 5.2.23 on Windows Server 2016... Any suggestions? Hi All, We have some CALLX programs saving audit data for certain master files. Function system(45) returns the calling program name but that is always the name of the CALLX program. System(33) is supposed to also return a program name but is always empty. Is there a way to retrieve the "chain" of calling programs - similar to check.pibs but without having to understand 2000 lines of deep code! Also a way to see if the item was updated in the editor/UP as opposed to in a program? Any tech ideas welcome. We use BEL=CHAR(7) to make a beep on errors.  We would like to have the ability to have 2 beeps or 3 beeps, but multiple beeps get combined into one.  I have only been able to get multiple beeps by adding SLEEP 2 between the BEL's.  Is there another way to get more than one beep to come through? If you have DX'd an FSI account, the QS pointer probably still exists in the VME's MDS. This can cause a problem with RESTORE-ACCOUNTS as it will create the DX'd account, restore the data from the account following it on the tape, then not restore that following account as itself. Example: you have an account called test followed immediately by an account called orders. You DX the test account and do a file save. You delete the accounts and do a RESTORE-ACCOUNTS. test will exist with the orders account's content and the orders account will not exist. Note that this affects RESTORE-ACCOUNTS but does NOT affect ACCOUNT-RESTORE, so if you stumble on this, you can delete any erroneous accounts and ACCOUNT-RESTORE FSI:<missing account> and you'll be good. Doing a d3vme /fileload is not affected either. Please note that Engineering is aware of this issue and currently working on a resolution. Good day, I'm trying to understand the basics of the D3 environment. Mostly clueless, but not afraid. I'm a 30+ IT person. Started coding in C in early 80's. We currently handle all aspects of networks, integration etc. Have no experience with Pick, want to get up to speed on terminology, best practice environment etc. To start: Application uses Accuterm to connect.I believe D3 is running on the MultiValue environment. It is running on a Windows 2008 server.These folders exist:C:\\ProgramData\\RocketSoftware\\D3C:\\Program Files\\RocketSoftware\\D3C:\\Program Files (x86)\\RocketSoftware\\D3ODBC Our support is provided via Nexustek, but certain tasks, I want to handle and understand. Modifying printer queues. I believe this is handled in COLDSTART Understanding the ODBC connect. I can connect to SQLDEMO, but don't know how to access the live tables. I have some basic environment questions. What version are we running? How do I find out? Best way to connect and play..putty, Accuterm?

There doesn't seem to be much love for the MVSP Java toolkit here. I've put together a demo (with all source code) using MVSP Java with Angular and Tomcat - D3 Demo The Java API is fast and easy to use IMO, and allows using D3 as though it was "just a database", just as you'd use (for example) Postgresql with JDBC, except with D3you have an embedded programming environment which is much easier (and flexible) than writing SQL procedures or embedding Java/Javascript functions in an SQL DBMS. It would be straightforward to create a SPA which makes REST calls to a web server using the same technique as the demo. MVSP Java also makes it very easy to create desktop Java Swing apps with D3. I know there's usually a lot of hate for Swing, but it's an extremely well designed UI toolkit. Oracle has committed to keep Swing an integral part of Java, so it'll be around forever, which clearly can't be said for any Javascript frameworks (Angular/React/Vue). Is there a way to call both FlashBASIC subroutines (compiled using the "(o" option) as well as standard subroutines from a single BASIC programme? I can of course mirror the non-Flash ones, but that's a bit untidy. I can't just Flash the non-Flash ones, as they are used all over the place by other BASIC programmes. I need to use the Flash option for a socket sender subroutine.

I am sure  their are some people on here who worked on R83 Pick systems way back . My first taste of MV was helping port a PRIME based system to Pick R83 on a small ICL CLAN mini computer. I was fresh out of college where we worked on huge mainframe machines and when I first saw the ICL CLAN machine I thought it was an air-conditioning unit.  I was just reminiscing a bit on how efficient R83 was in terms of memory.  If I recall correctly each Pick port needed about 500k . Morning All (South African Time!), I have a server upgrade coming up for a 65 user customer currently on D3 Linux 10.2. The plan is to go bleeding edge to 10.4 so have started the research and busy playing on a dev server. First off I see FSI and a totally new installation procedure.  Last time I used FSI was 20 yrs back when a customer had D3/Windows on WindowsNT - still have nightmares about WindowsNT :) So the point of my post is to ask for any hints and gotchas from those who have already done a similar migration, as I see there are a number of difference so it's not going to be a filesave & restore kind of migration. We use MVSP and we shell out to Linux occasionally to kick off Bash & PHP scripts. We also use the spooler to kick off Python scripts to create PDFs and/or email reports. I'm looking for some information regarding the use of CALLC. Particularly if my source code will need to include the jsystem.h and where I should store the .so / source code on the system (or setup a path so a jbase program can call it). The old zumasys docs aren't quite enough and I couldn't find anything in the Rocket documentation.
