Rocket® D3® and jBASE®

Hi, We operate D3/Linux 10.2 in a VM that has 16Gb of RAM assigned to it. As our database is currently only 6.1 Gb in total, is there anyway to pre or force load the entire database into RAM rather than just waiting on it to be loaded during the normal course of use?  Vincent

I'm posting this to alert anyone who's got large multivalued attributes they may want to sum in AQL. A friend of mine logged a case recently where a correlative using the S() function would hang when the file has any items where the attribute in question has more than 32,768 values. Engineering confirmed that this is an AQL limitation because it's using a 16-bit signed variable to track the value count. This variable is used in many places in AQL, and it would be a huge task to rearchitect. In the course of debugging this, Engineering came up with a workaround by using CALL in the correlative. This not only removed the 32,768-value limit, but it is also MUCH faster. Example of the correlative that hangs (using multivalued attribute 9 in the example): 008 A;S(9) Example of the correlative that works (again using multivalued attribute 9 in the example): 008 call bp sumbal Might be a good idea to fully path the subroutine being called. In the world where OpenDB can write D3 data to (say) an Oracle Table, have any of you had the experience to (for whatever reason) write from Oracle to D3? In other words – (say using the ODBC) - I can use SQL statements to INSERT/UPDATE and DELETE a row; this "instruction" is driven from the Oracle side in order to facilitate a D3 file (record) to be modified (WRITTEN TO / UPDATED / DELETED). How do you deal with the aspect of Multivalued fields – the D3 SQL documentation is a little flaky IMO and there are no real examples of what I wish to achieve and that is to INSERT/UPDATE a value within a MULTIVALUE (defined) attribute. The “safe” alternative is to write to a “normalised” D3 table and then have a function in D3 to sort things out! I'd like to know how you may have solved this in a more elegant manner. Have a quick question. In JED, what is the hot key to enter a TM (char 251) into a record? The VM and SVM are clearly documented. In Universe in ED i would just go into Up Arrow Mode  and change it there, but does not seem Up Arrow Mode is supported in ED on Jbase. Editing this in HEX does not seem supportable and I'd rather not have to create a user interface for this for a super user. I do see it's supported through RAISE() and LOWER(), so it should be there. Hi allThis time it's OpenDB.I have a spreadsheet, which I can read in D3 and swap the LF to @Am - we know this. It's a CSV file so I know that the columns are delineated by a semicolon (did this on purpose when I spreadsheet was created (SEP=;)Now, when I create an Oracle table with the column headings I always find myself offset by 1 because the item (that D3 writes) writes the KEY in the first attribute :(Now even if I add this (as a first column) in Oracle - I still seem to not be able to line up the rank (of the D3 attributes) and the columns.Has anyone experienced this?  Let me know if you require the example of the D3 Q pointer but I believe I have this correct. Also, if I write the record with a NUL key - I seem to get inconsistent results.@Robert Burke - any solutions that you may have?ThanksStefano

Hi All I''ve just started working with AccuTerm 8. x and as a developer, we sometimes need to break out of code that is processing to debug.Yes, I could place a conditional debug statement in the code but het guess what "Real men don't do that"  :)Anyway - pressing all key sequences (that I know) bears no fruit so I've stopped guessing and put this fwd to this group.I'm running Windows (10 and 11) and set my emulation to Viewpoint onto a Linux installed D3 10. xDoes anyone have the correct key sequence, please?Thanks Stefano

Help,  I am in desperate need of a 9.0.0 or 9.0.2 installer for client whose system crashed.    Rocket is unable to help as this is the last version from TigerLogic and some contract BS is stopping them from having a copy on their webpage. We're testing jBASE 5.9.0.1 and have a hung process that indicates "Program blocked on binary LOCK at OE.SR.DEL.UPDATE,437 Line 437 of that program is attempting to delete a record from the a file. The record is not locked,  jDLS -d -v -L does not indicate any type of lock on the port or process. SHOW-ITEM-LOCKS does not show any type of lock on that port or process-id.  LIST-GROUP-LOCKS shows no locks.   LIST-EXECUTION-LOCKS shows no locks. Periodically I have to transfer a single file, usually .txt, from D3 to the Desktop. There is a function in SB+ to do this to a Windows Desktop environment, but I want to transfer the file to a Linux Desktop. I have looked at scp, but can't quite understand the source path from the D3 partition. Any ideas or other suggestions welcome. Once I get it working, I intend to establish it as a script in SB+ to be used multiple times. Thanks. Hi all. I have the following ODBC driver installed : And I'm receiving the following message from OpenDB "[Rocket Software][ODBC D3 Driver]Logon failed. Check D3 connection parameters and available licenses. {28000}" Any Ideas on how to resolve this? (assuming that there are available licenses) - What is "required" for the D3 connection parameters? IOW - for example - Is a password necessary - and again here I understand that a password is recommended but for the case of clarity - is the password required?Furthermore - is there an ODBC v3.0+ available for D3? Hi All Perhaps a short one, but can someone please confirm that the super Q pointers ONLY work across D3 installations with THE SAME rev version? Assuming the hosts file has been setup correctly for this exercise . IOW, I should NOT expect to communicate (as via a LIST verb) to D3 machine A (where A is D3 version 10.x) and an older D3 version (say 7.x).I am able to do same 7.x to 7.x - that's OK BUT NOT 10.x to 7.xJust require confirmation. Or is there a solution which I don't know of?Thanks

Hi all - any advice here, please? (or please explain my "potential" misunderstanding :) I am experiencing difficulties in understanding why when attempting to use the D3 SQL ISQL commands. I have this version : On executing: which I checked in the code and the code looks for an implementation > 8. Furthermore, from the documentation I see that there is a NT_ISQL verb; which I also attempted  This one just drops to TCL - the code looks for (field function) a '~' separator which I give: And then things get "pear-shaped" 

I'm a very small shop, only 9 employees.  I recently brought my D3 server back in house after a stint in the cloud.  I'm running D3 on AlmaLinux.  The hardware is an HP Z2 workstation with an i5-12500 6 core processor, 16GB Ram and 2 SSD's.  I do most of my tech support myself, but sometimes farm some work out to a local IT support company, Top Notch.  They're recommending I switch to / embrace virtualization and recommending Windows Server with Hyper-V.  I'm not a big fan of Windows and no next to nothing about virtualization, but I've seen posts about the benefits.  I'm just wondering if the Windows Server is the best solution for me. Any thoughts? TIA, Bruce
