Rocket® U2 | UniVerse & UniData®

We are in the process of upgrading from Unidata 8.2.4 to 8.3.2.  While the OpenSSL bundled with Unidata has upgraded from v1 to v3 as part of this upgrade, the OpenSSL 3 is still showing vulnerabilities as part  of our vulnerability scanningOur security team are asking if its possible for Unidata to use the version of OpenSSL thats installed as part of the Red Hat Linux and kept up to date via patching. Is this possible?  Is it a god/bad idea?  Is there a clear process for doing this?

I’m attempting to load Universe 10.2 (yeah, I know it’s old) on a Windows 11 Pro platform.  I’m getting a load error: “Could not load UniVerse DLL D:\IBM\UV\BIN\universe.dll”.  Has anyone had any success in loading this releases on Windows 11, or have found a work around for it? (beside upgrading..lol)Thank you all in advance..Mark Warner

i will have to upgrade a universe server and a unidata server in the coming year. i thought why are we running both. when i upgrade the unidata server should i convert it to universe. is it more work than doing the upgrade itself. if so how much more work.

Are there any TCL/command line tools for updating Unidata ODBC configuration ala VSG?

Well, don’t know how it happened but somehow the ODBC configuration for one of customer accounts has been damaged and they want to restore it to what it was yesterday.  What files need to be restored to get this repaired?

It used to be the VSG, then the MDM, and I can’t find the MDM anywhere these days. What do y’all use for mapping Unidata tables to ODBC?

We are a rather large implementation of Universe 11.3.1 (originally created in the mid-80s as a PI install and migrated to PI Open to Universe over the years).   We have 3 application developers but do not have a traditional UV admin (we don’t modify the uvconfig parameters at all).  The system just seems to run itself.  I have read through Tech Specs & Release Notes but have not found alot of detail on how to or what to look out for.Does anyone have experience in going from 11 to 14?  Any advice or detailed check list?Thank you!

in Basic.  I have a program which calls a RESTApi and returns results and puts it into a txt file.   When I read the test file with another basic program, an INDEX funtion that I need to perform doesn't appear to work (returns zero).  When I put the file contents into a basic variable, the INDEX function works correctly.   I’ve looked at the file for special or non-printable characters which might cause the INDEX function not to work, and the file itself is clean.  What if anything else can I try  (and I’ve tried a bunch)..

HiI’ve come across SYSTEM(49) in a program that I’ve been asked to update. It’s returning a ‘0’ but I don’t know what it is and the documentation I’ve seen does not say anything about SYSTEM(49).Can anyone help with this? Thanks.

Does anyone have an accurate handle on how and when AUTOLOGOUT triggers?   The manual says….Use AUTOLOGOUT to enable or disable automatic logout. With AUTOLOGOUT enabled, UniVerse logs you out automatically if you have not pressed a key within a specified time. But I don’t believe that is accurate.   We’ve had some confusing results in testing.   A process on a loop with periodic TIMEDATE() displays (output only) does not trigger.  Similarly a loop process with no screen output but just a SLEEP X also does not trigger even in between loops before it goes back to sleep. So, we are trying to understand the actual nuts and bolts of how/when it triggers.   Thanks for any help.Steve DouglasVP Systems AdminMBMS, LLC

I’m told that universe support says: . ... they receive very few support cases related to NLS…There are a couple of possible reasons for this, one being that no-one actually uses it. We have code that supports some high-range ascii characters that would otherwise cause problems with the item storage but are looking to test a proper unicode solution. I really don’t want to be the first down this path ;-) Mike

I have a program that creates a Wintegrate pop-up window. Within this window, among other things, I place a picture in a specific location. Currently, the x/y coordinates used to place the picture are based solely on the window it’s self.Problem: the picture seems to move around if I resize and/or move the window. Or worse, if I move the program to a different computer. The solution that I am looking for, is a way to determine exactly what are the x/y coordinates of the upper/left corner of the window as compared to the full monitor screen. This would allow me to calculate exactly where I want to place the picture, within the window, no matter the size or location of said window on the monitor.

Hi all,I’ve been looking looking into what is involved in updating UD and UV systems.  The Universe 14.2.1 installation guide has a link for  the  “U2 Product Availability Matrix” -->  https://rbc.rocketsoftware.com/buildmatrix.asp  Unfortunately, this takes me to a dead-end with “This rbc.rocketsoftware.com page can’t be found”.  Where can I find this document?Thank you,Jonathan WellsAptron Corporation

Check out the newest short on the from us here at learn.rocketsoftware.com This short is a simple How-To on uopy.    It explains how to load and use the uopy module and the main classes and functions within it. UniObjects for Python short

Does anyone on the forum, have any information concerning Rocket U2 Application Developer Certification for new developers. This would include coursework, exams, etc. I have not been able to find anything on Rocket’s site concerning that topic.   Thank you in advance.

Is there a log of phantom processes and pids anywhere?I have a job scheduler that runs as a phantom and executes jobs from a table at certain times.I’m having an issue in my scheduler where it appears to run the same task multiple timeson a random basis (ie some days it is just fine, other days  I will see that same job runs multiple times instead of once).   I haven’t been able to figure it out and I was hoping that there was a log somewhere that I could look atthat showed what processes have been started as phantoms. On Universe 11.3

I have an evaluation copy of universe.   I had created a separate account, created a file with a dictionary, and then attempted to create an index.   What I got is below.   Just wondering if there is something else to be set up, or a permissions issue, or if the evaluation copy doesn’t allow it.   Thank you.>CREATE.INDEX MASTER.TABLE FIELD1 NO.NULLSAttempt to create index directory "C:/U2/UV/RICKDEV/I_MASTER.TABLE" failed.>.L RELLEVEL     RELLEVEL001 X002 11.4.1003 PICK004 PICK.FORMAT005 11.4.1 This is a windows version.

Hi!I’ve started to tinker with the Universe database of my company using uopy that allows me to run basic commands from a remote server. Is there a book or a formation to learn this basic?Asking AI I’ve been able to list the data of a file, but I would like to filter it by date. What is the formula? Thanks!

Trying to build and index and getting this error:04 BUILD-INDEX LOTIndex name:  SER#Locking 'LOT' file for exclusive use.Index file "INDEX.004" for key "SER#" is locked.  Aborting.File 'LOT' Unlocked. How can I unlock that index so  I can build it?

Creating a purge program.  First make a past on a stat file that has cust# and date to select appropriate records to purge into a “to purge” array (INSERT “AR”).Then, read through main file, using a locate on the array to determine if it was one selected.  If so, delete it.Issue is that the main file are from 1-5 records whose IDs begin with the cust#.  This file does not have a date to be used for purging.  The main file has almost 5M records.  The “to purge” array has 50k-150k cust#s in it.  The first pass to create the array from the stat file only takes 30 seconds even with 3M+ records.  However, reading through the main file, using a LOCATE (“AR”) is really slow.I would think that locating in the array would be faster than doing one pass on the main file and doing 4M+ reads on the stat file.   So, I was wondering if anyone had a better idea that would speed up the process.Universe v11.3.1.6022 running on AIX 7.2

Hello all!I’m adding variable data type protection to a subroutine label in a program I’m working on. However, I’m experiencing unexpected behavior when using the `DESCRINFO` function. Here is an example:* Set up some stuff here...IF RUN.MODE = "AUDIT" THEN EQUATE NUM.REPORTS TO 10 DIM REPORT.COUNTS(NUM.REPORTS) MAT REPORT.COUNTS = 0 GOSUB PREPARE.UTILITY.REPORTSENDLOOP * Do stuff here...UNTIL IS.DONE * Do other stuff here, maybe write to a report...REPEATIF RUN.MODE = "AUDIT" THEN GOSUB CLOSE.UTILITY.REPORTSEND* Other code here...STOPPREPARE.UTILITY.REPORTS: * Prepare reports, calling SETPTR and HEADING/FOOTING... RETURN; * Internal CLOSE.UTILITY.REPORTS: * HERE LIES MY ISSUE; THIS RETURNS 1 (INTEGER) BECAUSE OF THE 'MAT' ABOVE IF DESCRINFO(1, REPORT.COUNTS) # 5 THEN RETURN END * Close reports, print 'no data found' message if count = 0... RETURN; * Internal* Some other subroutines here...END; *ProgramHere is another example, simplified:DIM ARR.1(10)D

Hello! I’m relatively new to UniVerse and Multi-valued databases, so my experience with BASIC is limited.I was writing a program with subroutine calls that I wanted to abstract via ‘@<var>’. This program had a “create output file data line” subroutine and a “finalize output file” subroutine. When I wrote these local subroutines (explicitly defined, not subroutine labels), I encountered an error where, when calling with ‘@’, only the first locally-defined subroutine would be found; the other subroutine would cause a runtime error, unable to be located. It was not found locally, and so the object database file (.O) was being searched, instead. For example:* ...IS.DONE = @FALSE* Main loopLOOP READNEXT FILE.NAME ELSE IS.DONE = @TRUE ENDUNTIL IS.DONE * ... OUPUT.FILE = "" PREPARE.DATA.SUBR = "" FINALIZE.FILE.SUBR = "" * case 1 BEGIN CASE CASE FILE.TYPE = TYPE.1 PREPARE.DATA.SUBR = "DO.SOMETHING.1" FINALIZE.FILE.SUBR = "END.FILE.1" CASE FILE.TYPE = TYP

I am receiving JSON from a third party and it contains a null value like below.  I call UDOGETPROPERTY for line_item_id and when I try to reference the return value I get Improper data type and my process terminates. How do I detect for the null value in the return value?
