[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 17 February 2011]Hello,First of all, congratulations for your product. We are working under RM/COBOL since years, and this seems really a very good alternative for us.I'm performing a simple test: under Eclipse, I have two programs, and the first program does nothing but sets the parameters for the second and executes CALL "PROGRAM". I've tried this in a single executable project, several executables in an unique project, one project executabe with the caller and another library project for the second, etc.The problem is that I cannot execute never the second program, due to incorrect path errors...I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. But, what?Regards

Make sure the remote location is mapped by the local path.On Windows my project directory is c:\\viscob\\TestRemote, on Linux my project directory is /ux/microfocus/VisualCOBOL/progs/viscob/TestRemote.Is something wrong in my configuration ?Regards,Renzo

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 17 February 2011]We are investigating the possibility to migrate our product to Cobol.net using Visual COBOL.We have successfully opened our ISAM files using the Cobol File handler with help from Micro Focus Staff (Thanks!!!) - we can now iterate through an ISAM file and read data. Now as a next step we're trying to get ADO.NET to work - we want to use an ADO recordset that we then fill using our ISAM data. This may be a simple question but can anyone please explain how to declare an ADO.NET recordset? Our goal is to iterate throught the records moving filling ISAM field contents to ADO.NET recordset fields. ADO is not listed in our references screen, it seems as though it simply does not exist!? - we're using the 30days trial version of Visual COBOL R3.So we can't figure out how to use somthing like this:adoRS.MoveFirstadoRS.MoveNext adoRS.Fields("fieldname").Value = "value"etcetera. The EXEC ADO we see in so

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 04 February 2011]In order to bind ISAM data to ADO controls, we have set up a trial project in Visual Cobol R3 that uses the Microfocus File Handler (we also use this in our NetExpress 4.0 projects).Opening a file with call 'EXTFH' returns a file status 9/161 (something wrong with the file header?).When running the same code in NetExpress, this returns a file status zero (which is ok). Does someone know what might be the solution to this problem?

Or do we have to link every for every platform ?Best regards,Renzo

What else must I do besides deleting the control? This not only happens when I delete an object. I get the same error when I only resize an object a little bit! Before resizing the object the solution build went ok, afterwards the solution build or any save will result in the error message.

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 01 February 2011]At the moment, I'm testing VisualCobol for Eclipse and JVM. Development and debugging within Eclipse worked fine, and so I wanted to export the whole project and run the application outside eclipse.I exported my class files and also cesjni.jar, mfcobolpure.jar, mfjtypeinfo.jar, mfcobol.jar, mfcobolrts.jar. But that was not enough. When I started my application, I got the following message:Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no cblrtsm in java.library.pathI added the bin-directory of my VisualCobol-installation to the PATH-variable and it worked. If it is neccessary to deploy dlls along with my *.class-files my application won't runnable on different platforms. Is there any way to get rid of cblrtsm.dll?

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 21 January 2011]Can someone tell me how to bind data from ISAM files to windows controls in Visual Cobol? (not with the help of a third-party component). At the launch of Visual Cobol R3 I asked this and I was told that I can not directly bind isam data to a user control. Now I'm looking for the best alternative/solution.At this moment we (Centric) use COBOL (NetExpress 4) and Visual Basic 6 (Front End) for developing payroll software. We use COBjects (a third party component that is not supported anymore) for getting data from ISAM files and bind it to user controls with the help of ADO records. The batch processes (calculating) are written in COBOL.For the future we want to use Visual Cobol replacing Visual Basic 6. We see so much advantages in using Visual Cobol!

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 20 January 2011]I would like to say "Great Job!". I am glad to see Cobol go in this direction and can not wait to get the trial version and do some testing. My clients have been screaming for web interfaces to our product! I would also like to know if the presentations will be posted to the web so I can review them, there were several times I had to take phone calls and missed some of the presentation. Thanks and Great Job, you guys have made Cobol exciting again!

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 25 January 2011]Does anyone know if there are any good books out there about Visual COBOL R3? I cannot find any at our local webstores (in the Netherlands that is). If there are any books already available can anyone recommend any title?I myself am new to COBOL but I do have a thourough knowledge of OO concepts. I am searching for a reasonably quick headstart (e.g. 'for dummies' style) and not really for an in-depth 'bible' style book.

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 20 January 2011]Hi. I am trying to create a VISION data file (this is a new supported feature in VCr3). However, when I include the necessary support : $SET CALLFH(acufh) I get an error : COBCH0865 : Failed to find system program 'acufh'. I've tried everything I can think of, adding paths, copying to project directory, adding to the VS project, but the error persists. Does anybody have an idea if/how this can be solved ? This is the 1 month TRIAL version. Thanks, - Peter -

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 20 January 2011]Can someone detail the emphasis being placed on support for OO COBOL in native environments? (ie. Win32, Unix).I would really like to embrace the OO support but have a couple of major concerns:1. OO documentation seems to almost be an 'addendum' in R2 releaseIn earlier product releases OO support was documented in its own manual with some examples and reasonable explanations of the functionality. That manual has disappeared and been replaced with pretty thin docs in R2. Haven't yet looked at R3.2. Is this going to be enhanced in the same way as we are seeing for the .Net environment? At the moment the native syntax is extremely verbose and nowhere near as evolved as what was demonstrated earlier today. Are there plans in place to bring some of this functionality down to the non-.Net environments? Thanks

Cloud Computing is big news at the moment and by using the Azure option for Visual COBOL for Visual Studio 2010 R3 you can create and deploy COBOL applications for the Azure platform. What is the Azure option ? It is an add-on to Visual COBOL, available on request, providing functionality to enable creation and execution of Azure Cloud Services. It consists of: Run-time support Demonstration programs Integrated into the Samples Browser Additional Help Visual Studio IDE integration New Cloud project category ASP.NET Web Role WCF Service Web Role Worker Role Requirements Windows Azure Tools for Visual Studio 1.3 IIS 7.0 with ASP.NET Platforms Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows Server 2008 Hints and Tips You must run the Visual Studio IDE with elevated permissions Use the Compute and Storage Emulators to develop and debug the application on a development machine Be patient when deploying as the deployment may take several minutes to complete. [Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 20 January 2011]I've heard a lot about visual cobol. I am curious about a couple of specific applications.1) what happens to Revolve? Is this still supported going forward? Is there a replacement application?2) we currently use Microfocus Studio (MFE and Revolve). I thought I heard that existing products are still supported and the visual cobol just opens up more doors. Did I hear correctly?3) What happens to JCL support? Any changes there? Can you develop for a mainframe environment using Visual Studio?
