I was wondering if a program that is made resident by including the RESIDENT clause in the PROGRAM-ID paragraph will remain in memory after it exits using an EXIT PROGRAM. If not, can I exit from the program and remove it from memory? I need to shield a program from a CANCEL ALL in a called program. I have a BIS service program calling another program that is calling a final program that has a CANCEL ALL in it that is resetting the XML object in the initial service program. This is pretty highly undesirable as BIS core dumps and dies when trying to do an XML EXPORT FILE.
Problem: Does WIN$VERSION return client or server information in Thin Client mode? Is it possible to check both information (i.e. with a @[display]: prefix?) Resolution: WIN$VERSION checks the Windows version of the client in Thin Client mode. There is no way to get the server version currently.

I would like to know license expiry date of installed Server Express 5.0. I got output from apptrack as follows Installed Application Server licenses:----------------------------------------------------------00001/apps/ServerExpressVersion of Server for COBOLLicense users: Unlimited CPUs: 001Duration: Unlimited Server As per one article in microfocus community Duration means Duration: Unlimited Note: Unlimited rather than an expiration date indicates this is a purchased license, not a temporary evaluation key or an emergency issue from SupportLine. So how to know actual expiry date of existing license? Thanks in advance
Hi all, I am using the CDO library in order to create and send a mail with an attachment. After mail is sent, program deletes or moves the attachment file to another folder. My program works well (message is sent) except the following: wrun32.exe keeps the attachment file locked and the program can't delete it or move it to another folder. Although I am doing all the necessary DESTROY statements, the attachment file is actualy deleted or moved only when wrun32.exe terminates. Is there any other way for creating and sending e-mail messages (except using an outlook object) ? Thanks
Problem: Net Express 5.1 installation appears to be completed without any errors, but License Management System does not list any product. For this reason, it is not possible to: generate a Request Key to exchange with a Response Key apply Update (formerly known as WrapPack) Here is the error message when one tries to apply Net Express 5.1 Update 4: This upgrade can only be applied to Net Express 5.1 version 5.100.0157, 5.101.0074, 5.102.0118 or 5.103.0042. Please uninstall your existing version and rerun setup. Resolution: Attempting to install Net Express 5.1 (base version 5.100.0157 that comes with the media) on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 may fail or appear completed without any errors. In either way, a key in the registry became corrupt, and it cannot be removed through the normal uninstallation process. After the above attempt, installing Net Express 5.1 Update 1 or Net Express 5.1 Update 6 (both full product) may appear to be completed successfully, but the Licen
I want to bind each control on my Windows Form to a property in a a class. Is this possible ? In C#, I can select a TextBox, expand its DataBindings node in the Properties window, click the arrow next to the Text property, then click on the "Add Project Data Source" link. This link does not appear in Visual COBOL. Even if the link did appear, I'm not even sure if I can use my class. On the "Choose data source type" window, you can select "Object" but this doesn't seem to be what I am looking for. I know how to do this in WPF using the download from this link: community.microfocus.com/.../19748.automatically-refresh-a-bound-wpf-control-when-values-of-bound-object-are-updated.aspx Can I do something like this with a Windows Form ? #VisualCOBOL
Problem: Although users with Super Users privileges have no problem to install Net Express 5.1, they are unable to apply any WrapPack and get the following error message:"Windows Install error 1605" Resolution: Installing Net Express and its WrapPacks (or Updates) requires Administrators or Super Users privileges, but a corporation may put a system policy in place to prevent users from installing or applying software update. Windows Install error 1605 actually means "This installation is forbidden by system policy" In the system policy, there is an option to prevent non-administrator accounts from applying software updates. It is called Prohibit non-administrators from applying vendor-signed updates. Since Super Users are non-administrators, they may be able to install software, but not to apply updates. The users will then need to request their IT group to disable the option temporarily or have someone with administrator's privileges to apply the WrapPack on th

Object-oriented (OO) concepts are fundamental to both .NET and the Java Virtual Machine. If you’re considering deploying COBOL applications onto either platform, you’ll need to have a grounding in OO skills to take full advantage of what these platforms can provide. We have produced a guide (available here) that provides an introduction to OO concepts for procedural COBOL developers. We plan to build upon the material, so your feedback on the existing material and the new topics you’d like added is most welcome. Regards, The Micro Focus Documentation Team
Hi, we need a grid with 2 lines of col-headings (no problem with NUM-COL-HEADINGS) but the cells of the first line should span over 3 cols of the second and all other lines of the grid. Is this possible ? If so, please tell us how. If not, how would you solve this problem ?
I am creating a Line Sequential File, for the State of Illinois, and they are saying my file contains "an extra line". My program opens the file as output, writes the records, and then closes the file. When I look at the file, it looks to me as if the program is adding an extra carriage return at the end of the file. How do I get rid of that, OR not write it at all? Anyone have any suggestions?
Hello, I am new to the Visual (Cobol) / WPF World (coming from ACU-Cobol). I tried to find a Sample that demonstrates how to fill a WPF DataGrid (NOT DataGridView!!) from a file. I tested 2 different ways to populate the DG but None of them worked - here are them: 1. - read a file called "VER01" (employees)- filling a list with the Name, shortname and the number- read next entry of file - filling list ...- set the list (LISTBOX) to ItemsSource of Datagrid (LB1)- DataGrid is empty although the List is filled correctly Code 2. - read file called "VER01" (employees) - fill a Single-line-Array (LB1X) with entries from VER01 and - directly try to add this line to the DataGrit (Invoke LB1::Items::Add(LB1X)- The DataGrid is populatetd with the correct number of rows (concerning to the entries in the file) but the DataGrid has no content Code I really tried to find samles/help in the documentation, Forums, wikis, Google but could not find something that helps ... can a
Problem: When setting up a Remote Connection on Visual COBOL DevHub using SSH, the Visual COBOL Eclipse Client is unable to set up a project on the remote server with DevHub Installed. Solution: 1. Ensure that remote desktop option daemon has been started on the remote server. To check for this log on to the remote server and run ps -ef | grep 4075 from the remote server's shell. If the server has been started, the output will display something like: "/usr/bin/perl -w .........remotedev/rseserver/rseserver-3.5/daemon.pl 4075" If the daemon has not been started, then start the daemon in the foillowing manner as root: Run "cobsetenv" to set your environment such as ". /opt/microfocus/devhub221/bin/cobsetenv" Then run "$COBDIR/remotedev/startrdodaemon & " to start the server
We're compiling all our COBOL as 64 bit for the next release of our system, and one of the programs won't link. It gets the error message 'cbllds00003DFC.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _mFxxxx' (where xxxx is a 4 digit hex number). It gets this message many, many times. This program has calls to the 'CBL_' routines as well as access to the windows registry. I probably missed something in the documentation about 64 bit 'CBL_', so if anyone has some wisdom on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm using Visual Cobol for Eclipse with the RM Dialect. Using a RM Window Call, when the Window Closes the program displays a Terminate Window message, and doesn't redraw the background. Is there an easy way to get this working? I use CONTROL "WINDOW-CREATE" AND CONTROL "WINDOW-REMOVE" ... to start and stop the window in RM. But with RM in Visual Cobol, the main screen doesn't redraw, which is behavior that normally happens in RM. #window#COBOL#rm#VisualCOBOL
