I am stepping through code and to avoid long subroutine calls, I do a  "BLnnnn"  in the BASIC Debugger where nnnn is a line after the subroutine call I want to 'blip through' -- more often than not now, the BL command is met with a minidump: I have altered the code a little to avoid anything proprietary -- but this is the gist... I did not want to step into the subroutine at line 1031. SO ... Have created a utility in Universe which calls python script using PyCallFunction.  Python script is creating the https connection and posting the request. This is where the Universe aborts and we receive the error: Fault type is 11. Layer type is BASIC run machine. Hi I have a script that connects to my Unidata database and executes some commands. The script was working ok with UOPY 1.3.0 and Python 3.8. I just updated to Python 3.12, and I cannot connect anymore. I keep getting Error [81009] : The RPC failed I started to trace back, and I found the following: Python 3.8 -> Works Python 3.9 -> Works Python 3.10 -> Not Working Python 3.11 -> Not Working Python 3.12 -> Not Working I couldn't find the official version of Python that UOPY supports, so I wondered if 3.9 is the one. Any ideas?  Regards

Had some code doing strange things.  This is the example:      IF VAR1 = "UNKNOWN" THEN *   CALL SEND.EMAIL(ORDER.NO)   do other things      There was no END statement.  My best guess was that U2 considered the "*" at the end as a NULL and allowed it to compile. Does anyone know? Have you upgraded to either 11.4 or 12.2?  A while back I went from 11.3 to 12.1.  (In our case, we were motivated to jump because we were running on an old version of Windows server  that our system admins wanted to upgrade &, iirc, our version of 11.3 wasn't authorized for where they wanted to go.) We've had some I/O problems with 12.1 & it looks like Rocket is not really maintaining 12.1 with hot-fixes or enhancements & instead encouraged us to go to 12.2.    But now I see there is an 11.4.  And rumor has it there may be at least 1 more 12.1 I/O bug that hasn't been fixed yet in 12.2. We aren't really using any new 12.x functionality, & other than having to tweak some admin utilities that rely on things like LIST.READU which has changed,  I think we could go 'back' to 11.4 if that is a more stable release. The general question for people who are still on 11.3 is whether/why they should jump to 12.2 or 11.4?  TIA Chuck Stevenson ------------------------------Chuck S

Hello all,  I made a python script to read multivalue data in universe account and write in a file as CSV for example.  So, for decoding I use cp850.  Until that everithing working. When it's time to write I receive this error: error cp1252: UnicodeEncodeError: 'charmap' codec can't encode character '\\u2591' in position 88: character maps to «undefined» So decode is good with cp850, ok with that ?  Problem is encoding ?  Maybe I can force encoding in utf-8 but I don't know how to do that ? By trade I am more of an Admin, but in my current role I have some developer duties and have inherited some custom work that ranges from fairly simple to robust. Just searching for insight regarding UniQuery. I am actively working for some revisions for Colleague outbound feed; the Select & List criteria currently displays a single list of data. I’m interested in adding an additional column and maybe headers for both.   Currently, the users are only included in the list if they meet the Select criteria. The revisions would result in a full list of users regardless if the meeting the qualifying criteria, a flag being added would solidify yay or nay.  The vendor is requesting a Y or N flag included to be in the data, based on if they meet the selection criteria or not. If a flag doesn’t exist within the Colleague UI to be included in the data output, is it even possible

Both items are strings. They're not equal. It seems Universe is doing some kind of conversion on them that makes them equal. If I convert the strings to integers it knows they're not equal. If I concatenate a letter on to either string it knows they're not equal.  My client was using smaller numbers in a field but a new specification requires and 18 digit number. They don't want to to through all there programs that compare these numbers and modify them with a alpha character or int conversion. Does anyone know what's going on and how to best fix it?

I have RHEL 8.8. It has OpenSSL 1.1.1k. My UniVerse version is 11.3.4. It is OpenSSL 1.1.1b. What is the correct procedure to upgrade UniVerse's OpenSSL to 1.1.1k.  I'm trying to install a Python Module and it throws an error trying to download a new version of OpenSSL. Jon

I'm embarrassed to even ask this. I've seen the answer a couple of times in the documentation but can't ever seem to find it if I'm looking for it. How do you disable the automatic paging where the program prompts the user to hit the return key to continue. I know I can use the NO.PAGE option when running the program but I want to disable it in the program itself. Most of these programs were written for native Pick and were never designed to handing automatic paging. That's why I want to disable it in the program and not in the menu that run's the program.

Is there a way in PROC to test the @TTY variable and exit if it is equal to phantom? Sorry, Prime Information guy here, not much PROC. Jon

I am trying to confirm how U2 handles this inherently: 1st run a program from my own MY.BP  ex: "RUN MY.BP TEST.PGM"  TEST.PGM calls a subroutine, ex: TEST.SUB(arg1),  that exists in both the account's BP (cataloged in VOC) and a special version in MY.BP.O will U2 first look at the VOC to execute the subroutine and then, if not found, look in MY.BP (where the original pgm was run from) will U2 1st try to run the MY.BP version, and if not found, run the one cataloged in the VOC or, must I name my version to be unique, ex: call TEST.BP.NELSON(arg1), to have it run my version We often have a group of programs and subroutines that handle a process, and we are making changes to some of the subroutines, but not all.  Understanding the U2 rules of engagement would really help. We're experiencing frequent "No More LCTs" errors in Unidata, forcing restarts to resolve the issue. However, the LCT statistics indicate a normal total LCT count which is below 50%. Can anyone suggest what are the other possible ways to diagnose this issue? is there any way to temporally fix the issue when "No More LCTs" occurs without restarting the UniData. Any help would be appreciated?  Unidata Version - 52

I want to iterate through and array passed to a subroutine but I need to know how many elements are in the array.

Hi there,I've been looking for a long time, how to execute the 'DOS' command in a trigger in Universe.I have seen in some forum, that they indicated to add an 'H' in attribute 4, in the VOC DOS of the UV account.I have tried this and it does not work, since when firing the trigger and executing the DOS command in the subroutine, I get this message: Program "ED": pc = 744C, Verb "DOS" illegal when a transaction is active.Program "ED": pc = 744C, Error performing trigger for "XXXXXXXX".Failed to file "20451390" in file "XXXXXXXX". STATUS = 2Has anyone had the same problem of being able to run Verb on triggers? Hi, This is Keerthana. I'm Senior Software Engineer in TP project at Mitra Innovations. Currently, we are attempting to establish a connection between U2 Python and native Python. Our concern is that what we have done first is used UOPY module to access the subroutine and data file in BP source in XDEMO account using session. But U2 python does not require a session because the u2py module is included in the XDEMO account. But if we want to connect U2 python and native python there must be a configuration or session right? Can we connect this without using a session? Or are there other ways? We checked the .pyconfig file in the UV and tried changing the path to PYHOME and PYLIB there. But we are unable to connect. So Now we are thinking for the connection purpose we can use the any middle ware, Like MVIS. I'm not sure our thought is correct or not. This is a two part question to solve one problem. The first part; does a called subroutine use a new block of memory and address pointer? If so, doe this newly created memory clock have to wait for a time slice before it is processed? Also if the same sub is called multiple times, will use the already created block of memory?Part two; is it possible that calling a subroutine can break a phantom to the point of failure?We suspect our over night phantom process is dying because a tracing file we update with a small sub is killing the phantom.I personally do not, nor have I ever, actually known a phantom to die, because of repeated sub calls. However, we have to investigate the possibility.Thanks,SJJ
