Rocket® U2 | UniVerse & UniData®

Hi All, Hopefully this is a quick one, that I did not want to trouble Rocket support with. I know that UV11.3.5 is certified for Windows Server 2019, we aim to get as many of our customers on Windows onto Server 2022. However, we may have some who want to stay on 2019. To your collective knowledge are there any issues in sticking with 2019 for UV11.3.5? Many thanks.

Hi Running uv 14.1.1 on Windows, we are waiting to receive the patch 1002 Hotfix. Meanwhile, how can we restart uvcleanupd.exe without restarting uv himself !  If I start it from a console, it works but not as a background process. Thanks for any sugg.  Manu

Do we have a version of U2 Toolkit for .NET Developer with U2.Data.Client that supports any .NET 6 or preferably .NET 8 applications? I'm struggling to find information on it.

We have an app that is using the U2.Data.Client (version 2.2.2) to call a subroutine and the app is using transactions for an orchestrated business flow. Part of this orchestration is calling a subroutine and I need to know if that subroutine is, or has a way to, operate within the transaction of the U2.Data.Client. If so, how would I get that to work?

Greetings all! Attempting to: Create a list in PROC Call a catalogued Basic program Using PROCREAD in that Basic program in a LOOP/REPEAT construct Expecting the PROCREAD would pop off list elements until exiting the LOOP/REPEAT construct. To date, I haven't been able to get any data passed.  Does anyone have the mojo to get this bugger working? THX in advance for y'alls always great advice! ~Doc

hi everybody, I search a solution to read the locks info when I'm in a transaction ! I need it to act correctly on LOCKED clause..  OPEN 'MD' TO F ELSE STOP TRANSACTION START THEN CRT 'TR OK' READU R FROM F,'EFV' ELSE R = '' EXECUTE 'LIST.READU' EXECUTE 'PHANTOM LIST.READU' EXECUTE 'SH /C smat -r' EXECUTE 'ANALYZE.SHM -r' TRANSACTION ABORT RELEASE F,'EFV' the runtime says :  12 RUN EFVPROGS TESTTRANS TR OK Verb "LIST.READU" illegal when a transaction is active. Verb "PHANTOM" illegal when a transaction is active. Verb "SH" illegal when a transaction is active. Verb "ANALYZE.SHM" illegal when a transaction is active. Is there a hidden SYSTEM(?) to retrieve the LIIT.READU / list_readu / smat -r output ?  (I can perform all READU before TRANSACTION START and if LOCKED perform what I need but I'm into a generic subr

I'm fairly new to the UV world, and a coworker installed a trial version of UV and then had to have emergency surgery so the project was placed with me. I'm trying to sset up a uv database, but i can't seem to find or create a proper bp directory file for basic source code, and I can't type in lowercase at all, all myh input gets converted to uppercase. I've tried turning CASE off but it still converts. Can we default to a lowercase easily?

Hi, I need some assistance with my u2 installation of python. UV14.1.1/Windows - python 3.11.1 is installed under c:u2uvpython. I want to install and use a third party python module(s). However, using:  >python -m pip install wonderwords gives me an error ERROR: Exception: ... ImportError: cannot import name 'RequirementInformation' from 'pip._vendor.resolvelib.structs' (c:u2uvpythonLibsite-packagespip_vendor esolvelibstructs.py) How should I resolve that? Should I reinstall something? Also, is it possible to use virtual python environments with the u2 python configuration? It seems I can create them but I'm not sure how to activate it from within UV.  Thanks Stuart

Hi, Is it possible to connect to MQ using LDAP in Unidata 8.2.4. if not, is there any work around to connect and post messages? We are upgrading our IBM MQ version to 9.3 so we are changing the authentication to LDAP CSP and send username and password for authentication. Is there a way for Unidata to accommodate these changes? Any reference to documentation or any inputs will be greatly appreciated. More simple question should be can we use MQCONNX to connect to MQ in Unidata? Regards, Unidata Enthusiast

I have a subroutine that is compiled and cataloged. It gets call by some phantom processes. Periodically a phantom process dies because it cannot load the subroutine. What else can prevent universe from loading the subroutine besides not being compiled and cataloged? Update to the original post:  I have found the error for a common size mismatch but I am not sure why because it will run for hours processing many records without an issue.

MTS returns 13:37:42, but with sending data to SQL, multiple timestamps have the same value. Is there a way to get miliseconds?  We are transmitting multiple records and many would have the same "42" second value. Our best solution is to get the MTS value and add the decimal portion of U2 internal time to it.   For example, if raw time is 49062.2004, MTS retruns 13:37:42. before sending to SQL, we would change it to 13:37:42.2004 SQL date field would get "2025-07-25 13:37:42.2004" which it may not like. Any suggestions?

Hi,  I'm looking to find out if it's possible to install a python module in UV. We are currently running UV 11.3.4 with Python 3.9 embedded. We've had a request from our development if pytest can be added to what we currently have installed? Has anyone had any experience installing this module, and were there any adverse consequences that effected Python as a whole? Thanks, John Koonce

I have a python script that uses the "requests" package. When I run the Universe program that calls the function I get the "requests" package not found. I then created another python script that calls the python script that contains the "requests" package and it works when I call that script from Universe.  I must have something wrong in my path setting when coming from Universe and it cannot find the "requests" package. If I run the python script in Linux the program executes perfectly. If I invoke python from universe and import requests it works fine and finds the requests package. Both scripts are in the default location /XDEMO/PP. u2.pth /usr/ibm/bin/usr/ibm/XDEMO/PP Universe program:  SUBROUTINE SUB.BASEVEHICLE(VEHID,VEHOUT)       CMD = "REINIT.PYTHON OFF"       EXECUTE CMD       ModuleName = "callbaseveh"      FuncName = "getbasevehinf"       RESULT = PyCallFunction(ModuleName , FuncName, VEHID

I am trying to create a new distributed file. I am on a Linux Red Hat version 7 running universe 11.3.5 I tried running this command DEFINE.DF DATA CSA.TRIPPER.CENSUS ADDING CTC1 1 CTC2 2 CTC3 3 CTC4 4 CTC5 5 INTERNAL PARTNOUnable to open DICT "". CSA.TRIPPER.CENSUS is a type 18 file that has existing data. I created the CTC1 - 5 files all type 18 the PARTNO is in the DICT of CSA.TRIPPER.CENSUS 0001: I0002: MOD(SEQ(@ID[LEN(@ID),1]),5)+10003:0004: Partno0005: 6R0006: S When I list CSA.TRIPPER.CENSUS PARTNO the part number is listing 1 through 5    1276225      4   1730044      3   2032590      4   2183863      2   2637682      1   2940228      2   3091501      5   3394047      1 What am I doing wrong? Wise ones, Is there a way to prevent UDOWrite converting large numbers into scientific format? For example: PROGRAM temp $INCLUDE UNIVERSE.INCLUDE UDO.H Value = 1234567890.123Ok = UDOCreate(UDO_OBJECT,hObject)Ok = UDOSetProperty(hObject,'large', Value)Ok = UDOWrite(hObject, UDOFORMAT_JSON, JSON)Crt JSON STOP {        "large":        1.234568e+09} I can't make it a string as that will fail the JSON schema validation. Integral numbers are not affected by this so I could INT() it, but that's not really a solution. Thanks

I'm interested if anyone uses NFS to store account data remotely, with something like Netapp Files:https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/azure/azure-netapp-files/network-attached-storage-protocols.In my own research of documentation I can see the following:[The ALLOWNFS] parameter should only be turned on in the following cases:- When UniVerse is not running or not installed on the remote system. File integrity is compromised when locks are not maintained on the remote system.- When the system administrator does not allow other UniVerse installations to gain access to the same remote UniVerse files at the same time.So this would seem to indicate we are OK. I think I need to clarify: does local Universe locking still apply when ALLOWNFS is in use (and does this depend on the locking provided by NFS - because capabilities/implementations differ from version to version).

The Universe UDO... functions handle UDOFORMAT_XML and UDOFORMAT_JSON just fine. Is any effort in progress to extend them to UDOFORMAT_YAML?

Running UD 8.3 on AIX with plenty of disk space. I have a number of large files (10M-50M) records that I want to re-size to improve overall performance, but more importantly, prevent any file corruption due to any file re-sizing activities. I am trying to find out what is the optimal number of records that each group should contain: 1- Is there a recommend number of records per group (keep it under 20 or a certain number)? This will allow me to properly size block and modulo.  2- Should I keep increasing size of the block until I have zero level 1 overflow, which means ignore number of records per group? Albeit I managed modulo size in conjunction with block size. Any insights or recommendations is greatly appreciated. Thank you

After performing an upgrade from UniVerse 12.1 to 12.2.1 - we receive the message "Your VOC is out of date. Update to current release (Y/N)?" on the initial LOGTO on each account. Is there a way to just complete these VOC updates en-masse for all accounts?  Your VOC is out of date. Update to current release (Y/N)?Y Your VOC is configured for PICK compatibility Updating your "VOC" file.  (Each "*" = 10 records) *********************************************************** **** 6 item(s) were removed from your VOC file and placed in file "&TEMP&" to prevent them from being overwritten.   Updating your "D_VOC" file.  (Each "*" = 10 records) * 11 item(s) were removed from your VOC file and placed in file "DICT &TEMP&" to prevent them from being overwritten.

I have just loaded python3.13 and flask onto my rocky 9.5 system.  The system already has python3.9 as part of the rocky linux.  I have just installed idle3 wanting to use it to work with python3.13 and flask but find that it connects only to 3.9 where I do not have flask.  Does anyone know a way to either modify idle to connect to my 3.13 version or is there any way to get the "dnf install" to load it into my 3.13 directory structure?  I prefer to use idle instead of the plain 'ol text editor. Thanks, Dale

Hi, I'm new on Unidata. Right now our company is using Manage 2000 with Unidata RDBMS 8.2 version. My question is, is it possible to open my unidata database to SQL Server Management Studio, how? If it's not possible can I create a view on SQL Server Management Studio containing all the data from my unidata database, how? I already created a view file and successfully compiled it but I can't still see it on the SQL Server Management Studio. I also created a link server on SQL Server Management Studio using the U2 ODBC.

Good morning everyone, We have an issue with a TRANSACTION COMMIT failing with a STATUS = 3. The Unibasic subroutine containing the TRANSACTION START/COMMIT code is called from the outside as a web service. This failure is intermittent.  What can cause the STATUS code = 3 ? Thank you in advance. André Guindon

Hi all, i have a bit of an issue with U2 ODBC trying to connect to uniVerse DB. I installed (at the then time v530 of client tools (ODBC 64bit) onto a workstation and then i was able to connect to the DB and query. Since then i have installed ODBC tools onto another workstation/pc/server (both on premise and within Azure) and completed the same setups i did previously but on these they do not work. i keep getting the same error message (as shown at the bottom of this post) i cannot use the existing workstaiton/PC as that client is not the one i will be completing the connection from when in prod (as it is my workstation used for testing) and also cannot use as unirpc is locked down to specific IP (the new workstation/PC i want to use in Azure).  With this being said, if i try to install ODBC onto another workstation, same result, doesn't connect. i am using both the ODBC Tester from the ODBC tools and the Test Connection option from windows (ODBC Data Sources 64-Bit) after creat
