For a conversion project at a customer with 4000 custom programs written over 30 years we're trying to get a handle on which programs are actively used.  One idea that's been floated is running a monitoring program as root from the demo account that does the pseudo code below. By definition we'll be running this in production for a month or three, and there's some justified nervousness about any potential performance impacts.  I don't think the monitoring program will be a performance hog itself, but not sure if doing PORT.STATUS on the probed program has any effect - does it "pause" the probed program so the stack collected is consistent for example?  We're not expecting to get 100% coverage from this, but even 80% would be a huge help. Anyone ever done something like this for real?  Any war stories or hard-won words of wisdom to share?  Thanks for reading! Hello, Our apps are written in SB+ which use a cached opened files, in named common block SBPLUS & SBFILES, of 30 + 750 = 780 filevars (result of OPEN file TO filevar from BASIC). Some of our app's files are indexed, dynamic or distributed.  It means, with 780 cached filevars, we open more than 1000 os file.  With release 11.x we are used to set MFILES 3000 without never a trouble.  Now r12, r14 introduce SESSION_NFILES limit. Which is session's ActiveFileTable instance. SESSION_NFILES is not defined in uvconfig. CONFIG ALL report SESSION_NFILES = 800 ; aka. MFILES x 4) Then, at basic runtime we encounter OPEN file to fv ELSE CRT STATUS() =  -25 which is Exceeded SESSION_NFILES file table resource.  I try to push MFILES from 200 to 300 or set SESSION_NFILES to 2000 in uvconfig ...  - uvregen accept it  - at uv -admin -start I get  StartService failed (1068)  minidumpexception* Unhandled Exception raised at address 0xE7261759 : Acces

hello,  Under UV r14, these 2 uvconfig GLM_MEM_ALLOC / N_GLM_SELF_BUCKET are documented as :  GLM_MEM_ALLOC - The number of lock nodes allocated for each memory request. This parameter is highly application dependent. if the application requires a large number of locks in one transaction, this setting should be increased to the maximum number of locks per transaction * 2.  N_GLM_SELF_BUCKET - The number of hash buckets for the per-process locking table. This parameter is highly application dependent, If the application requires a large number of locks in one transaction (more than 20), you should increase this setting to the closest prime number to the maximum number of locks per transaction.  So, they are delivered  GLM_MEM_ALLOC 10 N_GLM_SELF_BUCKET 23 So, I try to set locks with READU and I have no problem to set 30'000 locks in one basic loop !  Are they not used if SYSTEM_BUFFER = 0 ?  Thanks for any explain. manu

I am indexing a 21,000,000 record file on the invoice date.  It is a single value field, and when I build the index it works correctly based on the records in the file at the time of the build.  After that, new records or changed records are NOT added to the index. Is there a setting related to indexing that must be set to auto update the index? I have read all the UniData documentation on indexing that I can find. hello, So, Universe >= r12 use the same lock system like Udt, I'm looking to deeply understand/tune it. For admin & troubleshooting, there is a tool uvglm_tool / glm_tool  and uvulc_tool / ulc_tool, but they are not documented or I do not found any docs about it nor in Unidata docs.    Is there anyone who have details about it ? How to read the info, use it ? We have a file that is used to find customers via a name & address formatted "matchcode".  This matchcode file has an index for customer number, as it has 38M entries.  For example: MATCHCODE:     4537100110WSTLM00000BSHT0001 599386130002 58926904 Often, there are more than one customer number (attributed) associated with a matchcode as shown in this example.  It seems that only <1> is indexed and not the others (.  Is this a function of how UniVerse indexes, or the dictionary value used or is it a function of how the index was created? >LIST-INDEX MATCHCODE ALL Alternate Key Index Summary for file MATCHCODE File........... We are upgrading from RHEL 7 to 8 to 9.  Then, we will need to upgrade UV 11.3.1 to 11.4.1. We are considering only going to RHEL 8, but UV 11.4.1 is certified for RHEL 9. Is anyone running UV 11.x on RHEL 9?  Any issues with it?

A strange behavior we do not understand. on a UV/windows / 11.3.5 we have python 3.11  (the one within uv/python - no other python is installed on the machine)  We  use module 'pandas'  in our script, release 2.2.2 is installed.  When executed from osshell, no problem : dos /c "python path/script.py"  When executed from uv/python, from pyCallFunction() or from TCL >PYTHON then import pandas we get this  DLL load failed while importing aggregations: The specified module could not be found.we do not understand what's wrong with the deploy.... What is the difference between a osshelled python call and a uv's python's one ? any idea ?  Many thanks for any advice  Manu

Hi Guys,I've got a weird issue affecting a couple of my users.The users all use SB Client V6.3.1 and login to the GUI interface, where they have access to SB + menus and have the facility to create their own User Menu, they typically put their "FAVORITES" that appears as a "window" on the left hand side of their main screen, which should look similar to this, dependant on what the user has added to the menuHowever this is what the users are seeingas you can see from the above the TEXT for the menu does not display correctly, at the point of logging on the text and menu structure is momentarily displayed.A full removal and re-install of SB Client doe not resolve the problem, nor does right clicking the the menu to Change FONT or any of the other items on this menuHas anyone else seen this problem and if so what is the work-around / fix please ??ThanksAndy

We're currently on UniVerse 12.1.1 and RHEL 7. As RHEL 7 is EOL - we'll need to upgrade to 8, and then update UniVerse to 12.2.1.2002 The team who will conduct the OS upgrade have asked if UniVerse will support a Leapp upgrade, and if UniVerse will support RHEL 8.6 specifically. Has anyone else been through this process? It has become unacceptable to expect or enforce the need for a manual authorization at the end of installation or upgrade. With the  latest release of UniVerse we have also published a tech note article that covers a  Python script to Automatically License / Authorise / Authorize UniVerse and UniData. Search our knowledge for 'How-to-Automatically-Licence-Authorise-UniVerse-and-UniData' or article number '000054994'. Any updates I make to the script between releases will be done via the technote. Good day, I am using Unidata 8.2 and building a web frontend to a Unidata application. What I'm trying to figure out is a good method for detecting console message such as Unassigned variables or Unopened file variables during the process. Yes, the messages are being displayed in the COMO, however so is a lot of other information, and I don't want to parse the COMO for console messages. I do want to report the messages back up to the user. Is there an EASY way to detect/trap those console messages? Trying to use some XML functionality and the doc's aren't very useful. But this is my first attempt trying to deal with XML on UniVerse and in general. The purpose is pretty straightforward, take XML feeds, break them down and write them to a UniVerse File. I started with writing a small program in BASIC to try to get familiar with the syntax and flow and utilize the XML functions available to me instead of creating my own parser. Getting unexplained error, basically having to do with the xml_handle or handler ? I'll attach results as well as the test file. I then tried to mimic the program below and get farther along, but not getting any data. A couple of points: 1) I've only mapped the first 4 items of the XML file and created those 4 items in the DICT (out of 25) Thanks for any assistance.....Plus, how/when is the data written to the UniVerse file. It seems that whenever I reboot my Windows PC, the Unidata database 8.2 and the Unidata 8.2 Telnet services are both 'disabled'. I use CCleaner and McAfee anti virus. Could it be that one of these is doing it. Or perhaps something else. Anyone got a clue on this one?

New to this so please bear with me... I am trying to use 'submitrequest' for the first time to pull contact from a URL. Below is what I have thus far but it doesn't appear to be working. Does anyone have experience doing this? If I manually use the URL in a browser, it works.
