Hi guys,We have a situation where we want to have multiple Unidata accounts on a single Windows server but the accounts may related to customer sites in different time zones. The front end will be a browser based web application. If we use DATE() and TIME() that will pick up the date and time from the server which may not match the date/time relating to the location of the customer's site.We have thought about 1. Calling an API to get the site "actual" time but that must rely on both an internet connection and the API always being available. 2. Maintaining a "time offset" setting but that's difficult with daylight saving as that can kick in on different dates each year and sometimes isn't required at all. 3. User the date/time from the users local PC but what if the user is travelling or simply has their date/time set incorrectly.Has anyone come up with a good solution to this? Many thanksBarry GreenCBS SoftwareM: 0414 380192 T:08 82601256www.cbssoftware.com.auwww.cbssoftware.com.a

I finished my contract last week, so back on the market. I landed an interview with a "recognizable company" and went straight to the final round. During the interview one of the panel asked me, "How do you read a file without a select list?" I paused for a moment wondering why anyone would need to do that?  I thought for a moment and came to the conclusion, it may be possible, but I cannot think of how it could be done. I responded to him, "In the twenty years I've worked in multivalue, I have never seen any code that would do that. But I don't ever recall ever having the need". Is it possible?  Does anyone have an example?Added:  This person meant without using SELECT anywhere. At TCL or internally in a program. He claims he has a way, I doubt him.  ------------------------------Scott JohnstonSr Software Engineer, Architect & DeveloperDover DE US------------------------------

Hi, i would like to query a bunch of tables to see if the indexes have been built I tried LIST-INDEX <FILENAME>.  But it seems to require a <return> if the page is too long. Was also looking at guide_ndx, but i can't see a BUILT column like in LIST-INDEX.   guide_ndx would be ideal because i can call it from a shell script. ------------------------------Jeremy SchmidtprogrammerRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

Trying to understand how the login process works on Windows when we use Accuterm and telnet to the Universe server. One of our users gets this message: Welcome to the Rocket U2 UniVerse Telnet Server.Enter user name: hrs\\BOBEnter password:This directory is not set up for uniVerse.Would you like to set it up (Y/N)? Our other users can login to the database just fine. All users should be connecting to the single Universe directory we have on the server. What directory is this BOB user trying to connect to? How do we get this user to connect to the Universe directory?  ------------------------------Gil SteidleDEVDDI System Incbrick NJ US------------------------------

Many years ago we changed our web-based software to support prompts, menu items, and help to support multiple languages. We did that by using a number for the prompt like 2300 was "Customer Name". Depending on the language you would go to the matching language file to translate the 2300 number to "Nombre cliente" for Spanish and "Nom du client" in French for example. In the 18 years we have demoed this to United States-based companies nobody expressed any interest until last week. This  client would like to have code files like  Code A1 equals Apple or Pomme in Spanish Code Z1 equals Avacado or Avocat in Spanish Our Universe database has a file called Fruits in this example. So my questions for those who have done this are: Do you add a field for every language? Do you add a multivalue field for every language? Do you change the value in the file to a number and translate it to a language field? Do you add a file called Fruit_ES for Spanish? Depending on the method chosen, how does

Here is a record sample: The TESTING column is a multi-valued list, and the pipes represent actual SVMs for readability. I'm looking for a function that will return an associated boolean list indicating whether or not either '1400' or '9101' exists in TESTING, so... In this sample, if one is present so is the other, but that's not always the case. So a 1 should be returned if either exists in what is actually a subvalued list. EDIT 1: A subroutine would make this very easy, I know, but I don't have time for the administrative overhead that comes with developing/delivering one to PROD, so I need this to be "idescriptor" language. Also, there will be subsequent processing, based on a SUM() of the Y/N list for each record, which will be compared to DCOUNT(TESTING,@VM). EDIT 2: I think I found a solution. I didn't realize I could use the INDEX function on lists. Though it will require another step or 2 to get the final result, I think it will work.

Hi all I have some problems when connecting to servers using uopy, as the PATH variable is wrong. The Rocket® MV team is pleased to announce the release of Rocket UniVerse 14.1.1 on June 26th, 2024.  Rocket UniVerse 14.1.1 builds upon functionality implemented in version 11.4.1 and 12.2.1, making it the upgrade and modernization path for all customers on all prior versions. UniVerse 14 ensures business continuity and helps you manage your replication environment effectively with key HA/DR features. Replication is faster and more flexible with Field-Level Updates, since the entire record is no longer transmitted during updates, only the individual field that was modified is replicated - significantly improving performance! Facilitate Replication recovery with the uv_repadmin skip option which allows you to skip an incomplete transaction that has caused replication to stop processing. By using the skip option, administrators keep Replication processing and avoid log build-up and the eventual reset and refresh of Replication due to a stalled group. Hi, We recently encountered a data file corruption on key files. This was causing our app to fail. Does anyone in the forum have knowledge of any tools that will send email alerts once a new entry is logged into the \\U2\\unidata\\bin\\udt.errlog. Thanks in advance for recommendations. ------------------------------[Darren] [Johnson] [Australia][Snr Dev Engineer]------------------------------

Using a BASIC program, I need to read filenames and file dates from an AIX directory and compare them with names and dates held in UniVerse records. If the files are present among the UniVerse records then they need to be moved out of the directory and more files added from another directory. Any advice or code snippets much appreciated.

We use @USER0 for an application-level constant.  We set it in the LOGIN paragraph & it should remain constant. I've seen it sometimes - but not always  - get set to 0 after/while? I've used/exited(?)/re-entered(?) RAID.  I haven't pinned down what triggers  it. Ironically, the reassuring thing is that RAID is disgustingly buggy.  I've had problems in RAID that don't happen when real users run things for real.  So it's probably ok in production.  Probably. The Rocket MV team is pleased to announce the release of Rocket UniData 8.3.2 and Rocket MultiValue Performance Experience (MVX: Performance) 1.10 on April 25th, 2024. UniData 8.3.2 is the first UniData release certified with the Rocket MultiValue Performance Experience (MVX: Performance) 1.10, which is available for our customers on maintenance. MVX: Performance monitors the performance of your UniData server and provides DBAs or developers with a better way to track down issues. It determines the root cause of issues, including the server, the operating system, the hardware, or a combination. DBAs can easily receive alerts when over 40 performance monitoring events occur, so constant monitoring is not required.  In addition, UniData 8.3.2 and MVX: Performance 1.10 provide you with an enhanced replication experience, bolstering High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) capabilities. UniData 8.3.2 extends the security features introduced in UniData 8.3.1, which included: Enhance

For a conversion project at a customer with 4000 custom programs written over 30 years we're trying to get a handle on which programs are actively used.  One idea that's been floated is running a monitoring program as root from the demo account that does the pseudo code below. By definition we'll be running this in production for a month or three, and there's some justified nervousness about any potential performance impacts.  I don't think the monitoring program will be a performance hog itself, but not sure if doing PORT.STATUS on the probed program has any effect - does it "pause" the probed program so the stack collected is consistent for example?  We're not expecting to get 100% coverage from this, but even 80% would be a huge help. Anyone ever done something like this for real?  Any war stories or hard-won words of wisdom to share?  Thanks for reading! LOOP EXECUTE 'LISTUSER' LOOP FOR EACH ROW IN LISTUSER RUN "PORT.STATUS PID <ROW.PID> CALL.

Hello, Our apps are written in SB+ which use a cached opened files, in named common block SBPLUS & SBFILES, of 30 + 750 = 780 filevars (result of OPEN file TO filevar from BASIC). Some of our app's files are indexed, dynamic or distributed.  It means, with 780 cached filevars, we open more than 1000 os file.  With release 11.x we are used to set MFILES 3000 without never a trouble.  Now r12, r14 introduce SESSION_NFILES limit. Which is session's ActiveFileTable instance. SESSION_NFILES is not defined in uvconfig. CONFIG ALL report SESSION_NFILES = 800 ; aka. MFILES x 4) Then, at basic runtime we encounter OPEN file to fv ELSE CRT STATUS() =  -25 which is Exceeded SESSION_NFILES file table resource.  I try to push MFILES from 200 to 300 or set SESSION_NFILES to 2000 in uvconfig ...  - uvregen accept it  - at uv -admin -start I get  StartService failed (1068)  minidumpexception* Unhandled Exception raised at address 0xE7261759 : Acces

I would like to obtain the workstation hostname when a user logs into a Linux system.  I had it available on our Solaris Unix server but not on our RHEL8 server.  We use this to identify a physical location and to associate network printers nearby.  I am able to get the workstation hostname when in Citrix and by using Accuterm and checking a Session clientname but it is not always present when directly on the network and wondered if it was somewhere else Available to Accuterm.  Where can I found out the PC workstation hostname and what other windows information like this might be available to harvest? 0097:             * Check for citrix environmental variable CLIENTNAME0098:             SCRIPT = 'InitSession.Output Environ("CLIENTNAME") & vbCR'0099:             CRT CHAR(27):CHAR(2):'P':SCRIPT:CHAR(13): ; INPUT CLIENTNAME: ;  IF CLIENTNAME # '' THEN CRT "<-ClientNam

hello,  Under UV r14, these 2 uvconfig GLM_MEM_ALLOC / N_GLM_SELF_BUCKET are documented as :  GLM_MEM_ALLOC - The number of lock nodes allocated for each memory request. This parameter is highly application dependent. if the application requires a large number of locks in one transaction, this setting should be increased to the maximum number of locks per transaction * 2.  N_GLM_SELF_BUCKET - The number of hash buckets for the per-process locking table. This parameter is highly application dependent, If the application requires a large number of locks in one transaction (more than 20), you should increase this setting to the closest prime number to the maximum number of locks per transaction.  So, they are delivered  GLM_MEM_ALLOC 10 N_GLM_SELF_BUCKET 23 So, I try to set locks with READU and I have no problem to set 30'000 locks in one basic loop !  Are they not used if SYSTEM_BUFFER = 0 ?  Thanks for any explain. manu

I am indexing a 21,000,000 record file on the invoice date.  It is a single value field, and when I build the index it works correctly based on the records in the file at the time of the build.  After that, new records or changed records are NOT added to the index. Is there a setting related to indexing that must be set to auto update the index? I have read all the UniData documentation on indexing that I can find. I have been using indexes in other versions of Pick for decades and this is the first time I have hit this problem.------------------------------Bob LislePresidentInformation Technology SystemsDallas TX US------------------------------
