Rocket® U2 | UniVerse & UniData®

Hey, folks. In UniData, I'm attempting to use SETPTR to change several options. However, this command:SETPTR 0,220,44,2,2,1,"FONTSIZE=9","ORIENTATION=LANDSCAPE","FONT=COURIER"results in only the FONT=COURIER setting being accepted. All other variations of that command result in execution error. Any help would naturally be appreciated.Rich------------------------------Richard LucibellaDirectorRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

Hi, I'm having problems with installing UV14 in a RockyLinux:latest container. I'm using the unmodified Compose build from https://github.com/RocketSoftware/multivalue-containers It consistently gives a shared memory violation during installation after the "Installing default Basic Global catalog" message.  Then you get the following in the log when UV attempts to start: Starting UniVerse...UVSMM is started.Starting uvsm...Unirpcd is started.Loading rfsconfig information.Error when attaching shm (0, 268435456, 0), errno=22Couldn't start uvcleanupd daemon. Please check /usr/uv/uvcleanupd.log and /usr/uv/uvcleanupd.errlogUniVerse startup is aborting. Of the versions I've tried, this failure happens for 12.2.1, 14.1 and 14.2.1.beta. UV11.4.1 is okay and consistently gives good installs. Upgrade from 11 -> 14 is also good. I'm taking from comments in this thread that there should be no difference using a container as any other form of virtualisation. Has anyone else had this issue? Chee

Hello - I'm running the debugger on a unidata program and need to set a variable to null. I remember there is a way to do this but do not remember how. I know you can always set a variable to a value through the \\ command...but to set to null. I'm remembering something like save or sv...can't quite remember.  Can anyone help here? Greetings, all!Environment - UV 11.3.5 on AIX 7.2 Whenever we stop and restart UV, the current logs in $uvhome get saved into the $uvhome/saved_logs folder.  It's not just a straight copy, though.  It appears that the current values get appended to the end of the respective files that were already in saved_logs, but it also appears that some of the information from the front ends of the existing saved_logs files gets removed.  Is there documentation somewhere that says how these files are managed?  Are each of the log files handled the same, or is each managed according to its own unique set of rules?  Are these rules configurable by us? Some of these files can get fairly large, so we're looking to be able to predict/manage what is going to happen, as well as ensure the sizing of the associated filesystem is correct.Thank you!------------------------------Brian Paige------------------------------

Hi All,We have a customer who are upgrading their hardware and OS to a Hyper-V environment running Windows 2022.Does anyone have any experience of running Unidata/Windows 2022 in a Hyper-V environment? Any issues we need to be aware of?Any comments/suggestions are much appreciated. Many thanks.Barry GreenCBS Software

Hey all- I've managed to locate the Unidata Dictionary, Commands, Basic and Administrator manuals. But, after years of being on other platforms, I'm really struggling with queries and report formatting in UniData. Operators like BY-EXP, ID.SUPP, HEADING, etc, keep popping into my recollection, but I'm still having a difficult time with syntax and order. The UniBasic manual helps to some extent, but I'm hoping there might be a more in-depth Manual (or training) specific to creating and formatting reports from ECL.thanks in advance for any assistance- Rich------------------------------Richard LucibellaDirectorRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

Hi everyone. Does anybody know the what the cost would be to upgrade to Universe from mvBase, if they have an active support contract for their mvBase installations? Any insight would be helpful. Hi, We are experiencing issues with our UniVerse session, where randomly the session gets frozen and becomes unresponsive. It's random and occurs once or twice per month, and the only solution we have is to restart UniVerse and it starts working. Has anyone experienced this issue or is there a fix around this. We are using Centos to host UniVerse 11.3.1 and this issue has started since November last year.   Below is a sample error message : kernel: uvapi_server[9052]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f7aa5a6b586 sp 00007fff414b15e8 error 4 in libc-2.17.so[7f7aa5938000+1b6000]kernel: uvapi_server[9045]: segfault at 0 ip 00007ff5418e0586 sp 00007ffc9b5592a8 error 4 in libc-2.17.so[7ff5417ad000+1b6000]  Thanks,------------------------------Amarendra RakeshBusiness System ManagerSMC CorporationSydney NSW AU------------------------------

Hey, guys. new here. Programmed PICK and Unidata back in the late 80's / early 90's and I'm REALLY rusty. Can anyone tell me where to find a Dict Reference Guide? Thanks much- Rich------------------------------Richard LucibellaDirectorRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

This is probably an easy question for someone but I dont know the answer. I just switched to a new job and their wildcards seem to be prime like instead of PICK like...for instance - where I used to type 'SELECT VOC = "[KH]"' they are typing 'SELECT VOC WITH @ID LIKE "...KH..."' Can someone tell me if this is a UDT option? term type? some other setting that I can adjust? I can of course just get used to the new syntax but was wondering why it is different. Thank you Kathleen------------------------------kathleen hambrickProgrammerRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

hi, May I introduce a suggestion to help the program runtime to check the type of a variable and not crash. There is already a function DESCRINFO(1,variable) which return the type of the variable ; so some type c.f. descrinfo() doc ref  on sellist, pyobject, udo, do, xdom, ... descrinfo() return -1 ...  I'll suggest to implement more descrinfo result value like 11=sellist, 12=pyobject, 13=udo, 14=do, 15=xdom, ... and by extension, if request_code = 2,  descrinfo return a DO with polymorph properties aka. metadata about the variable.  with kind regards------------------------------Manu Fernandes------------------------------

hi, when I try this : var = '' try var->$objecttype() catch e print 'error ':e->$tojson() endtry print 'finished' the error is not cached, the program terminate with echo bad self type: 2 and @SYSTEM.RETURN.CODE = -1  Same behavior with the $fromjson(), $tojson() ...  any idea ? ------------------------------Manu Fernandes------------------------------

The python 'dict' object is ubiquitous when interacting with python modules, functions and classes. The process to create a python DICT object using the U2 BASIC Python API is, well, interesting: Create a LIST containing just the 'name' and 'value' for the DICT entry Create a TUPLE from the list Append the TUPLE to another LIST that will be used to create the DICT When the LIST of TUPLE objects is completed, create a DICT using the LIST of TUPLES This all works ok for strings and numbers, but I cannot get a boolean True or False value to use in the tuple. I either get an integer value of 1, or 'None'. This is the code I have tested so far, trying to get a python True object/value: ** Attempting to create a python True object using the PyBASIC API pmo.BUILTINS = PyImport("builtins")if len(@PYEXCEPTIONTYPE) then gosub PY.BADNESS * Using CallMethod to run the "bool(x)" commandtest1 = PyCallMethod( pmo.BUILTINS, "bool", (-1))rslt = PyCallMethod( pmo.BUILTINS, "print", 'test1', test1) *

Hi Expert, I am new to U2 and the EDA Schema Manager tool. I am trying to import data from U2 files into a SQL table using EDA. I have successfully created an ODBC DSN connection and installed the EDA. Additionally, I connected to the U2 server and can see the schema files. However, I am encountering issues with the EDA Source connection.  I correctly created the connection, but when I validated it, I received different error messages each time. Here are the error details: 1. EDA license not authorized.2. Map Schema __CURRENT_MAP_SCHEMA__ failed on lex check.3. Could not write the data source (Connection Name) on Server (U2Server). Could you please advise on the reasons for these errors? Is it a license issue, and if so, how do I obtain a license? Or could it be a configuration issue? I would appreciate your help. Thank you! ------------------------------Marimuthu kalyanasundaramMRRocket Forum Shared Account------------------------------

While developing an app using OpenInsight for MV (in this case Universe) from Revelation Software Bob Carten at Revelation suggested using commuter modules to manage I Descriptors that use the SUBR call.  (Note that this approach can be used without Revelation - it just happens to be my first use-case).  To establish a convention, each MV table that uses a commuter has a subroutine in the program file that starts with "I_" for I Descriptor.  That way you can see all of these commuters grouped together when listing them.  In this example, the MV Table in Universe is called "BOOKABLE", so the commuter subroutine is named "I_BOOKABLE" and in this example we will be using the dictionary entry "DESCRIPTION" and these are the first 5 lines of that DICT: >ED DICT BOOKABLE DESCRIPTIONThis is a Type "I" Descriptor last compi20 lines long. ----: L50001: I0002: SUBR("I_BOOKABLE","DESCRIPTION")0003:0004:0005: 20L And this is the subroutine I_BOOKABLE SUBROUTINE I_BOOKABLE(RESULT,DICT_ID)*******

Looking for a solution/trick/etc... for the following scenario: We're running a UniVerse 10.1.22 application on AIX 5.3.0. But want to offload a certain module for real-time processing to a new Centos Stream server on a VMware platform running UniVerse 14.1.1. The plan is to have the "core " files needed  NFS mounted and exported to the other server. So that they are viewed as local files to UniVerse and the rest of the application. To move the data, I've been using rsync and planned  to continue using it to keep the Centos server data current, for my purposes it was very efficient. The problem is each time the data is synced, I have to perform a "fnuxi" on the data to perform the byte-swap. Any alternatives to doing this fnuxi each time data is synced ? Is there a certain File type I can use (Type 1 or 19) to avoid this ? We are running UV11.3.1 ( Pick Format ) on AIX 7200-05-08-2420  Yesterday, we started getting reports from the call centers about user's sessions freezing up. Normally, our first thought when this happens is a record lock of some kind.  If we tried to log into the application, we got to the login prompt and were able to authenticate. But once we successfully entered our userid/password to get into the application the session would hang.  We create thousands of uniobjects connections to the DB throughout the day from our web sites and IVR, and these were timing out. Unable to read data from the transport connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.[IBM U2][UODOTNET - UNIRPC][ErrorCode=81009] The RPC failed UniVerse itself was running fine. I could start new sessions and as long as I stayed on the UV account ( bypassing the application log

Universe 11.3.1 running on AIX We use a sequentil file (0 bytes) "FLAG FILE" to indicate when a remote system has completed the build of a data file on the primary system.  A program on the primary  system trys to open the file, and loops until it is found (and can then start processing). Since this 'FLAG FILE" is not in the VOC, I can OPENSEQ it just fine.  But, I have not successfully found a good way to delete it. Of couse, I can execute a Unix script that will "rm" it, but I would rather do it within the UniVerse Basic program if possible.  (A DELETESEQ would be a good command, but it does not exist.)  Suggestions?------------------------------Nelson SchrothpresidentC3CompleteShop LLCHarrison OH US------------------------------
