After migrating to AcuCobol version 10.5.1 we have a problem using page up/down in a grid. We simply miss one line in the bottom using page up and one line in the top when using page down. Displaying a 10 line grid with 50 records will show line 41 thru 50 correctly, but after pressing page up then grid will show line 30 thru 39. So, we miss line 40. Using arrow up/down works fine. Anyone heard of this problem? When I right click on a file name in the VSC explorer window I get the option "Compile selected BASIC programs". Selecting this (when connected to the U2 server) runs compile on the selected program(s) on the server. When I run this from F1 (or assign a keyboard shortcut to it) I get an error message even if focus is on the selected file name(s) in the explorer bar. In a migration we're performing, we have this difference: we have Cobol programs in Server Express 5.1 and signed variables (not comp); after execution, when viewing the output file, the field displays the sign at the end of the variable. That same program in Visual Cobol 10 generates output but without displaying the sign at the end of the variable (an example is attached). We modified compiler features and resolved the appearance of the sign, but the record length increases. Therefore, we must review the use of this file with the new length. The question is: What parameter do we include in the compiler to correctly generate the record with the sign of the variable without increasing the length? Hello Alex, Here's how I finally resolved my issue: 1. Upgraded to zOS 3.1. 2. Upgraded to IBM Java 21 (which has different file encoding semantics than Java <= 17 - I was formerly using Java 11). 3. Found this Java file encoding snippet on the IBM Web site: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/semeru-runtime-ce-z/21.0.0?topic=guide-file-encoding-utf-8-as-default-charset 4. I think I had previously put -Dfile.encoding="IBM-1047" in the ant script as part of $ant.sys.options.  I removed it (and temporarily added -Dcom.ibm.autocvt.trace=true  just to do a verbose check). Viola - all tagged files (e.g., via .gitattributes) converted internally to UTF-8! This was a Java issue all along; -Dcom.ibm.autocvt was disabled because ant specified -Dfile.encoding="IBM-1047" (and Semeru, being higher than Java 17, acted differently than my former Java11). What's the most efficient/fastest way to securely get data in/out of a jBase system? The last time I had to do this, we wrote a CGI interface and accessed the system via HTTPS. This time, we have no need for the full CGI environment, we just need to parse some JSON data, and return a JSON response.  Similarly, MVIS is overkill. Is there a "jClient", like there is with qm? We could just listen to a port, but the inbound connections will be coming from multiple clients, so we really don't want to run multiple transactions through the same process. We like the statelessness of separate connections.  Since jBase apps compile to OS executables, the current thought is to establish an ssh connection, with keys, run the appropriate routine, return the JSON and then exit.  We're wondering if there's something simpler.  ------------------------------Raymond DeGennaroOwnerSelf RegisteredBelvidere IL US------------------------------

Hi, We're a very small company that has an app used by a few local school districts that we *think* was last built with Micro Focus Visual COBOL for Visual Studio 2013 that needs a small change to extend some calendars and then be recompiled.  The app runs on Windows.  However, the developer's health/memory ( who built and maintained the app for the last 35 years) has deteriorated such that he is no longer able to do so.  He's only able to tell us that he used Visual Studio 2013 to edit the source and ran some command via the Windows Command prompt to compile it.  He last compiled it in 2022. So, needless to say, we could use home help.  And, of course, we need this done in the next couple of weeks.  We know very little about Cobol (though I am a .NET web developer).  Ideally, someone here would be willing to do some freelance work to compile the app for us.  If we can't find someone to help, then we'd need some pointers on where to start and try to do it ourselves using VS Code .  

I guess I'm a better programmer than Admin. I have successfully(?) installed UniData on an AWS Server. But I'll be damned if I can start the DB. Is there any way to know, from within the contained component in a tab widget, when the component is visible (I.e. when the tab value on the other component is changed).  I have contained component which I would like to refresh/instanciate when the tab is clicked, but not before.  trigger getfocus only fires when the contents of the tab is clicked, not when the tab widget itself has it's value changed to show the item.  The contained component is used by several different 'parent' components, and I would rather not have to alter the tab widget valuechanged trigger on all of them to include some 'instanciate' message. I'd rather the contained component knew when it was visible automatically. I have been looking for ways to encrypt data sent from a publisher to a subscriber. That data is sent to unirpcd on the subscriber and I have confirmed that, at present, it is sent as plain text. We have a lead interested in replication but want to ensure that the data transferred between the publisher and subscriber is encrypted (they're Unidata on AIX). I noted the existence of the "-s" option for unirpcd, but when I force unirpcd to start on pub and sub with this option, replication does not operate. I've been told that there is no "official" way to encrypt the replication data travelling between pub and sub(s), but that using a ssh tunnel may be an option. I'm pretty decent at setting up tunnels - I do it all the time, but I have yet to work out how to get replication to go through a tunnel. Any suggestions? Or does anyone have any other suggestions about getting the data from the publisher to the subscriber to be encrypted (preferably without having to do file encryption for ever

We are currently on ChangeManZMF V827 for most of our platforms, but have begun conversion to V831. We have several applications that are decommissioning out of ChangeMan. We have done a couple searches through the Admin and User Guides, but did not find a section for decommissioning/retiring applications. Hi folks! I made a simple client program in C to execute a transaction to MFES using CICS_ExternalCall function (casbnccl64) library in linux.
