Rocket® D3® and jBASE®

I'm in the process of setting up a "golden master"[*] in order to migrate six D3 v9.0 Linux hosts to v10.3.4. I wanted to get the base D3 install completed before turning the VM over to my infrastructure team for duplication. I'm installing on RHEL 9 (9.4 specifically) and noticed that nothing has been done regarding systemd during the install process, even though there's some passing acknowledgement in the docs that xinetd is deprecated.  Nothing for telnet, nothing for MVSP. I didn't know what to do regarding the missing systemd service scripts for telnet, (the word "systemd" doesn't even occur in the 10.3.4 installation guide.  That's problematic.), I figured I'd at least see if I could get MVSP set up - maybe that creates the systemd services. i'm in the process of testing a big upgrade, from d3 linux 10.1 to d3 linux 10.3.4 and i'm sure this is another silly question but i don't know where to find the answers. probably because i'm not sure how to phrase the questions. when i log to the www account to start flashconnect i get the following error: [877] in program "WWW-STATUS", FlashBASIC object revision of program 'wbp WWW-STATUS' is incompatible with system revision - please recompile. i get the same error when i try to use www-manager. when i try to recompile i'm told they're not on file. :compile wbp www-status www-manager [202] 'www-status' not on file. back with another question, hopefully this is the last one! when we downloaded d3 linux 10.3.4 there were also three patch files available, 17, 18, & 19 is this a situation where patch 19 contains all the updates from prior ones? or is each patch its own standalone fix? basically what i'm asking is, do we have to apply every patch individually & in order? or can we just apply patch 19 and ignore the prior two? thanks in advance!

i have another question, this time as per subject line i'm trying to set up the d3telnet turnkey stuff, on almalinux 9.4 where xinetd is not available. the admin.pdf talks about using xinetd and doesn't mention any other possibilities. i've searched the forum for 'xinetd' & 'turnkey' & found this post: D3 and mvBase which included a clue re. setting up a d323@.service so i tried to copy that manually then started it with systemctl. it failed though, and some digging revealed that the /usr/bin/d3net/d3_tel command doesn't accept either -w or -p arguments. i poked at it a bit and got the following: Usage: mve_tel [-debug4 | -debug6] [-h] [-n] [-N] [port] but i haven't been able to find where any of those options are defined, and at this point i'm not sure i'm even following the right lead. i've checked all the PDFs that came in the d3 10.3.4 download, and like i said i've searched on here, but i haven't managed to find what i'm looking for. is there a published guide somewhere t

i'm working on a fresh install of almalinux 9.4 and d3 10.3.4, setting up a new box that we plan to migrate a much older d3 install onto within the next month or so. i don't have a ton of experience with alma (or centos7 which the old box is running, or any other rhel variants), so i'm kind of figuring my way through as i go. anyways the problem i've run into now is TLLicMgr is failing to start on its own, and i tracked it down to systemctl reporting that rslm has failed.  here's the error message i get when i do systemctl status rslm.service systemd[1]: Starting Rocket Software License Manager... Hi everyone,   I have a client with a successful D3 10.3 Linux installation who needs to meet auditing requirements by testing their Disaster Recovery (DR) procedure. The DR test is an annual event where they spin up a Linux server with a D3 instance and restore their database and applications.   Rocket's policy, as outlined in the Rocket MV End User Handbook (page 28), states that when running D3 in a High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) setup, matching licenses with unique serial numbers and identical configurations are required. This includes scenarios like using U2 Replication or any secondary mechanisms for failover, all of which need additional licenses.   My client is resistant to replicating their D3 Production environment and is also hesitant about the alternative solution of maintaining a separate D3 machine with minimal configuration.  I can't get MVSP on my Linux D3/10.2 server to work with SSL.  I have a server.pem file in the /usr/lib/pick directory and MVSP seems to start ok when I instruct it to do so with ssl. I wondering what others do for pessimistic locking strategies. D3's normal READU will lock a record for that PIB, and that execute level, which is good, and it is the behavior all D3 Basic programs probably use.  My character based apps allow a user to "push" a level, so if you were in a customer maintenance screen,  for example, the customer record ABCD would be locked, and if you pushed a level in that screen  and used a menu selection to open a new customer maintenance screen and tried to edit ABCD, it would locked via the normal READU behavior. This would work the same if some other user on another PIB had  ABCD locked.  With  a Java Swing app using MVSP, because it's a GUI, I can have multiple windows opened at the same time, so I could have 2 (or 200)  customer maintenance screens open and clearly don't want to edit the same record on more than one screen.  If I used one D3 connection per open window, I'd pretty soon run out of user licences, so I'm only using one D3 connection f

Ran into a problem on an Azure RHEL 9 instance where D3_setup could not execute anything out of the /tmp directory resulting in a failed install (/usr/bin/d3 missing, etc.). If you run into this, do the following as root: mount -o remount,suid,exec /tmp You should also alter the /etc/fstab to make this permanent after a Linux reboot. Find this:/dev/mapper/rootvg-tmplv   /tmp   xfs  defaults,rw,nosuid,noexec,nodev,relatime  0 0 change this part:nosuid,noexec to this:suid resulting in this:/dev/mapper/rootvg-tmplv   /tmp   xfs  defaults,rw,suid,nodev,relatime  0 0 While not related to D3 installation, it might be a good idea to make the same changes for the /home directory so that you can execute out of the /home directory as well. Currently, running 34 jobs in scheduler.  Recently, the scheduler stopped running on 7/21/2024 and started backup on its own on 7/31/2024. We have a multi-valued field that is being exploded for a sort. The dictionary item calls a program to convert the value. When we were on D3, this worked correctly. When we moved to Jbase, the sort failed. It seems to only sort on the first multi-value of each record selected. The program call was originally in <8> of the dict item. Another developer moved it to <7> after the issue was discovered. That worked fine for a while as the order of the original format sorted very close to the sort of the updated format. However, additional changes have been made that now make it obviously incorrect. <8> is the proper location for this call. The subroutine being called does use a few ACCESS references. At first I thought it might be something there, but it does do the conversion correctly. So the outputted data is correct with its format, but the sort result is wrong. Hi, can someone help me?   I have 2 D3 windows servers with the same version.  I used to have a super q-pointer on the second server pointing to an account on the first server.  The q-pointer was deleted when i freed up vme space.  I can't remember the format needed for the super q-pointer.  I also can't find the document that i previously read to setup this.   Thanks!

Older D3 system running 10.2 Linux. After I loaded the latest patch, they started having System Halts, so I put them back to the original version of 10.2 However, when I recompiled all their BASIC programs, they came up with "0 frames used" for each one. What does this mean and how do I fix it. Their system is up and running, so I'm confused. Thanks. Fixed. Just a heads up for anyone (like me !) who is not aware. Recent versions of D3 contain Accumath extended precision functions already loaded. I think in the distant past this package was an add-on, but now all the Basic callable functions are in dm,bp, or available directly as user exists. Using Accumath you can easily achieve the 15-16 digit precision of a Java double, or the higher precision of a BigDecimal. Hi allI reside in the UK and for our "sins" we still honor the European data format of DD/MM/YYYY. There is a conversion code which 'e'  which according to the D3 manual states: e Uses european date format regardless of current system default setting This is great, however, I discovered something rather disturbing and am wondering whether anyone (this side of the Atlantic) can see (a) if I'm doing something wrong OR (b) has uncovered this. BTW - I am aware of the set-date-eur option in a coldstart - which (in my case) I have not opted to have. Found a new file in D3 that you need to keep an eye on: DM,ERRORS,END. This file gets an entry every time you END a phantom job from TCL. A friend of mine had a VME crash because there were over a million items in that file. If you END a lot of phantoms from TCL, you're probably headed in the same direction. Best solution is to turn off the logging to do that, you'll need to set up a config item in the DICT of the DM,ERRORS, file and fix a bug in one of our subroutines. The bug has been reported and will be fixed in a later release of D3. First the subroutine: DM,BP, END.SUB: You need to flip lines 63 and 64: 063 end064 if logit = 0 then outNoLog = 1 should be: 063  if logit = 0 then outNoLog = 1064 end Then COMPILE DM,BP, END.SUB (O Then create this item in the DICT DM,ERRORS, file:   config.end001002003 logging=off This will turn off logging.
