Rocket® D3® and jBASE®

Hi, I used Oracle Linux on my last 2 servers as I needed to build them after Centos had "died" but before Rocket had  certified Alma  & Rocky. I need to build another server and would like opinions as to which is better to go for, and why - Rocky or Alma?! Also any potential gotchas with either of them. When Linux got rid of xinetd in version 9, changes had to be made to D3, particularly in the area of telnet listeners. This includes turnkey telnet (telnet to Linux and get a D3 login prompt instead of a Linux login prompt), nailed telnet (a range of TCP ports that each connect to a specific PIB instead of the next available PIB), as well as the MVSP telnet listener, typically on TCP port 9000. systemd replaced the xinded functionality and is now used by D3 to set up these listeners. Now that D3 over Linux version 9 has been out for a while, it has come to our attention that there are some things missing from D3's systemd configuration which is causing some D3 and Linux stability issues. We are currently working to get formal patches out to mitigate these issues. Meanwhile, the fixes we are implementing are listed below and can be implemented manually to alleviate the problem while we're waiting for the formal patches. ______D3 Turnkey Telnet Service______

Hi all I have a particularly disturbing situation that's just come about.I have BASIC code (source) which I compile in which I purposely place a DEBUG statement.Whereas before the DEBUGGER would provide me with the source code lines - I now am presented with the response:no source and sometimes get : * remote file system error Remote file has been moved or deleted The D3 account is in the FSI portion and the code is simply: 1< >debug <2 >crt 'hello' Any ideas (please)? p.s. Yes I bounced the D3 machine and the Linux machine and redid and got the same results.

Hi all I know I posted this (somewhere) before but it got "lost"I'm experiencing "hanging" after I issue a shutdown command with the new 10.4x on Linux. Follow me through with this. The shutdown command executes the odbc-setup command with a 'close' option (line 412) The odbc-setup option expects a confirmation of this option (line 167) which it never receives (from the original shutdown command)This results in the process "hanging" until a CR is issued. Suppose you have a file like TEMP that has NAME, ADDRESS, and PHONE where NAME and ADDRESS are both single values but PHONE is multi value. Like so: TEMP..................... NAME...... ADDRESS... Hi allHas anyone else noticed that you need an extra CR when you issue the shutdown (y command in D3 - AFTER it has started the shutdown process?It gets "stuck" (bad word) at a point and unless you hit a CR only then does it do the remainder - shut down the printers and ends the shutdown process to return to Linux. OR should we rather be using the systemctl stop D3svc ?Regards Stefano

I'm a little confused as to how D3 10.4 requires the .ini entry to be configured for disk and memory allocation.Is the disk in MB or frames ( / 4096) or GB? Say I required an 80GB disk - what would I need to have as the disk size parameter in the .ini entry?Also the total memory - again is it in MB / GB?Say I wished a total of 6GB of main memory - what would the entry be on the .ini.The install manual is a bit confusing and not that clear (IMO).ThanksStefano

Hi, As mentioned in previous thread, we're playing with 10.4 on Linux, and I'm new to the VME/FSI world! Is it possible to increase the size of the VME without a re-install? In the D3Vme.ini file there are these statements: <pre>[d3vme.disks.0]name                           = Disk0.d3size                           = 1024000offset                         = 0</pre> I tried adding a [d3vme.disks.1] to mimic the adding a disk to the old pick0 file, but the system wasn't fooled! Hi all, Apologies if I'm in completely the wrong place! We have an appplication running on D3 and have a linked sever in MSSQL using the ODBC connection. When retrieving a date column I am getting error : Error converting data type DBTYPE_DBDATE to date. select * from openquery (LINKEDSERVERNAME, 'SELECT DATE_COMPL FROM SOH SOH WHERE (SOH.DATE_COMPL={d ''2024-03-01''})') From Googling it seems I need to convert it to a string, but I am unsure of the conversion functions in D3. I have a client who started their business on R83 and are now on D3 Linux. All of their USERS were created long before D3 and by my former partner. In every account on this particular system, regardless of where you are, a CTRL-BREAK re-executes the MD item - BASIC or PROC - when you type END from the debugger. I reached out to Rocket support and was unable to get a solution, so I poked around in my old reliable R83 manual and found that if Attribute 9 in the USERS item is set to R, that's exactly what will happen. If it's set to L, then END leaves the user at TCL. The moral? As the result of the post by Bryan Buchanan I have started have a look at the Java API to interact with D3. I'm working on AlmaLinux 8.9 with D3 10.4 installed. I have downloaded the file MVSPJavaAPI.zip and successfully compiled and used then MVSPJavaAPI/mvspTest/mvspTest.java program. The program connected instantly and all data accesses were instant. Using that as my basis I created a console program but ran into an issue with connecting. The connection in my program is taking 2 to 3 seconds to complete. Data access is instant after the connection occurs. At the same time I am seeing the following message lines in /var/log/messages: Mar 10 20:49:13 Alma8 systemd[1]: Started D3's per connection MVSP server for pick0 (127.0.0.1:53850). Good afternoon, D3 hosted on a Windows 2008R2 Server I have recently learned how to add printers to the D3 user-coldstart macro. This is the third printer I have added. The two previous are working perfectly. The last printer I created using a Brother printer (PCL) Windows driver. However all the text coming out of the printer starts with %!, which is an indicator of a postscript text stream. This causes pages of postrscript text to spew out of the printer. I have tried:  changing the driver removing and adding the queue again using a new queue (eg; added a new port 15 and 16) no difference We have 14 printers that work, this one is giving me fits. I have quite a few customers running Rocky Linux as their OS for D3. Every single one of them has the same problem. A reboot of Linux, not a total shutdown, changes the designation of the USB drives that they use for nightly on-site backups. What was /dev/sdb might come up as /dev/sdd on a reboot. Since they are designated in the PICK0 file for FILE-SAVES, this creates a major problem. There is a command in D3, RENAME-FILE, which changes the name, but does not appear to change the name in Processes where that particular file, or data from it is used. Is there a straightforward way to change all references to the file where it is accessed throughout the system? Thanks

I'm seeking a way to ascertain where jBASE is verifying login credentials via an AccuTerm script, or at least show a verbose log or trace of the connection attempt. An AccuTerm 7.3a user logs into their workstation using domain credentials. Those same credentials have been stored by AccuTerm in the workstation's user registry for use when connecting to the jBASE server. The jBASE login fails; jBASE then offers a different login scenario (possibly using local user credentials?), requiring manual entry of the credentials, which succeeds. These are the same credentials saved in the registry and Active Directory. AccuTerm 8.1. behaves similarly. This is jBASE 5.2.23 on Windows Server 2016... Any suggestions?
