Hey, folks. In UniData, I'm attempting to use SETPTR to change several options. However, this command:SETPTR 0,220,44,2,2,1,"FONTSIZE=9","ORIENTATION=LANDSCAPE","FONT=COURIER"results in only the FONT=COURIER setting being accepted. All other variations of that command result in execution error. Hi, I'm having problems with installing UV14 in a RockyLinux:latest container. I'm using the unmodified Compose build from https://github.com/RocketSoftware/multivalue-containers It consistently gives a shared memory violation during installation after the "Installing default Basic Global catalog" message.  Then you get the following in the log when UV attempts to start: Starting UniVerse...UVSMM is started.Starting uvsm...Unirpcd is started.Loading rfsconfig information.Error when attaching shm (0, 268435456, 0), errno=22Couldn't start uvcleanupd daemon.Please check /usr/uv/uvcleanupd.log and /usr/uv/uvcleanupd.errlogUniVerse startup is aborting. Of the versions I've tried, this failure happens for 12.2.1, 14.1 and 14.2.1.beta. UV11.4.1 is okay and consistently gives good installs. Upgrade from 11 -> 14 is also good. I'm taking from comments in this thread that there should be no difference using a container as any other form of virtualisation. Has anyone else had this issue? Chee

Hello, I am currently working on creating a CentOS Steam 10 installation (latest) with the latest version of UV available as of this post (14.1.1.xx) The installation runs but there are many errors that complain about EGREP not being supported so grep -E is automatically being substituted and after the installation gets to "Installing default Global Basic..." there are thousands of VOC LIB errors. Some things that I learned from the installation is that libnsl and libxcrypt-compat are required to even begin it. Perhaps there are other requirements that are not listed in the basic docs that are "assumed" to be installed on a from scratch OS installation that I need to install? Just want to cover my basis before reverting down one level (CentOS Stream 9) due to the installer just not working. Usually, it's a me problem :) Thank you in advance!

Hello - I'm running the debugger on a unidata program and need to set a variable to null. I remember there is a way to do this but do not remember how. I know you can always set a variable to a value through the \\ command...but to set to null. I'm remembering something like save or sv...can't quite remember.  Can anyone help here? Greetings, all!Environment - UV 11.3.5 on AIX 7.2 Whenever we stop and restart UV, the current logs in $uvhome get saved into the $uvhome/saved_logs folder.  It's not just a straight copy, though.  It appears that the current values get appended to the end of the respective files that were already in saved_logs, but it also appears that some of the information from the front ends of the existing saved_logs files gets removed.  Is there documentation somewhere that says how these files are managed?  Are each of the log files handled the same, or is each managed according to its own unique set of rules?  Are these rules configurable by us? Some of these files can get fairly large, so we're looking to be able to predict/manage what is going to happen, as well as ensure the sizing of the associated filesystem is correct.Thank you!------------------------------Brian Paige------------------------------

We recently upgraded our application using U2.Data.Client from version 3.1.1.0 to 3.1.2.0, and we are encountering a different kind of issue with multithreading. Issue on Version 3.1.1.0 Previously, in version 3.1.1.0, our server would spike the CPU usage to 100% and remain at that level. I'm using the latest U2 64-+Bit ODBC Driver Version 7.241.02.9004.The ODBC Connection tests successfully and works perfectly in applications that use ODBC, such as Excel, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Power BI Desktop.I am running a freshly installed local instance of Microsoft SQL Server Developer (64-bit) 15.0.2000.5 on Windows 10 Pro locally.I created a Linked Server connection using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers and it connects to the U2 database successfully, listing out all of the table names.  However, I cannot see any columns, nor can I query any data from the U2 tables.If I try scripting a select statement from a table, it says:[MYU2DATABASENAME]...[MYTABLENAME] contains no columns that can be selected or the current user does not have permissions on that object.Again, I can select all columns and data from these U2 Universe tables using the same credentials in other applications via ODBC.I need to be able to query data via a SQL Server Linked Server co

I'm trying to get ssh working into a Windows 2022 system with UniVerse via openssh. It works much better than the last time I tried it, but for one problem: the escape key. The problem is that the escape key is not passed to UniVerse. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or has managed to get this going? Let me illustrate this a little. If I ssh into the Windows server, CD to a UniVerse account, and run the uv (or uvsh) command, and then run the following program: GETKEY 0001 PRINT 'This will list the ASCII code of the key pressed until you hit "Q"' 0002 loop 0003 c = keyin() 0004 print seq(c) 0005 until c = 'Q' ! c = 'q' do repeat It returns the ASCII code for any key I press - except for the ESC key, when it simply doesn't respond. If they do not, the applications will not work with your UniData account. This blog post shows you how to create new UniData accounts with schema v6.0 files, delete corrupt files and recreate v6.0 schema files, and create new schema v6.0 files or upgrade older versions of these files. Jonathan Smith October 16, 2019 What changed at UniData 8: Memory Allocation Prior to UniData 8.1.0, UniBasic variable space was allocated via shared memory from a system wide shared pool (some of these go back to the original design in the 1990s). Why? It was done to reduce total system wide memory consumption and to ensure that UniData had enough memory available for a user application to function. This memory allocation reserved the base memory requirement, as defined by the shared memory parameters, for use by UniData only. And, the shared memory segment was divided into smaller segments, allowing multiple processes to use the same memory area. Michael Rajkowski January 31, 2023 Starting at UniVerse 12.2.1 and UniData 8.2.4, you have additional control over how your Python environment is maintained during an upgrade. Previously, when you upgraded your Rocket U2 database, a new version of Python replaced the previous version requiring your System Admin/DBA to reinstall needed modules and/or to modify the .pth files (putting them back to the way they were before the upgrade). Now, during the upgrade you are presented with two questions: Do you want to preserve Python .pth files? Do you want to preserve Python module files? If you answer no, (or don’t select the check box on Windows upgrades), the U2 install process will replace the Python version, and you will need to create/modify your .pth files as necessary, and then pip install the modules you are using for the new version of Python. Here I’ll discuss Entity Framework, Visual Studio and provide some screen shots and sample code. Entity Framework 4.0 or 5.0 is part of old Visual Studio (VS) versions. When upgrading to VS 2013 or later versions, it creates a .NET Framework 4.5 application to work with the newer Entity Framework 6.1.x version. It requires the Manage NuGet Packages tool to install it and it also requires an additional registering process to recognize the Rocket U2 Toolkit driver. Before you can begin using your U2 accounts in SQL-based applications, you must make the U2 data accessible to those applications. One of the most common uses for conversion codes is dealing with dates. In MV, the internal representation of the date is an integer. For example the internal format for “04 Dec 2014” is 17140. Those familiar with U2 BASIC know they can get the internal format to the display date format by using the OCONV function. Paul Chang May 15, 2019 Overview External Database Access (EDA) enables you to convert data stored in the Rocket U2 database to a 1NFdatabase, such as Microsoft SQL Server, then access that data using existing UniVerse BASIC programs, RetrieVe, or UniData/UniVerse SQL. There are a number of reasons to join EDA tables. When combining rows from multiple tables in one query, you need to use the JOIN command. There are several types of joins including inner join, outer join and full other join. The simplest join is called equal join. By default, the SQL Server database is set to the “SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS” collation. The primary key of an EDA file is created by the “SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS” collation. So, when you are trying to use an equal join on these two collation fields, you’ll get the following error “’cannot resolve collation conflict between “SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS” and “SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS” in the equal to operation’ #468’”. We’ve added replication charts to provide you with more insights into the replication status and latency of your MV databases. You can now see four different charts showing you the subscriber latency trend, the estimated time to catch up, and the distribution of replication data for all groups or a selected group. This is a big improvement over using XAdmin, where you had to do the mental math to understand the estimated time to catch up. You can also use the Graphical Range drop-down menu in MVX: Performance to select a time range for viewing the data trends. Ben Peach June 20, 2023 If you’ve ever configured a Rocket UniVerse or Rocket UniData (U2) product for SSL, you’ve likely come across the option to set ‘Authentication Strength’. The options are Strict and Generous. While that wording is descriptive enough to tell you that ‘Strict’ is probably better when it comes to security, what does it mean in real terms? First, it’s important to know that secure communication these days is mostly done using a protocol called TLS (this includes U2). TLS, or Transport Layer Security, was launched in 1999 as an upgrade to the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) version 3.0. TLS can be thought of as SSL 3.1 or 4.0. Some argue that the name was changed simply to avoid any legal issues with SSL’s original creator, Netscape. ‘SSL’ is still generally used to describe secure communications; the terms SSL and TLS are used interchangeably. With the proliferation of the Cloud, more and more users are moving their applications into the cloud where OS-based authentication schemes are increasingly getting harder to maintain and use. Some U2-based application vendors are beginning to adopt third-party Identity Management (IdM) products for their in-cloud applications. With such an approach, the end users are no longer issued or asked to provide OS-based credentials for logging into the applications.
