Today, we experienced slowdowns in a production environment in the processes running there. We investigated the reason for this loss of performance and found that during the execution of one of the components, an excessive call was made to the thread_stmystate_fast function. Memory addresses were assigned more times than the process requires. This application was running on an earlier OS version, and there, the calls to this function were much lower, which did not cause any slowdowns in the process. I appreciate any guidance you can provide to resolve this error. Hello team, I have a customer reporting that "the first time I tried to run a Visual COBOL executable on our new server, Windows threw an error like the one below." and asking: Is there some trick to getting this to not occur? Initial research I've just done on smartscreen shows:  Microsoft Defender SmartScreen flags a program as "unrecognized" when it lacks a sufficient reputation or is not widely known to Microsoft's security database. This can happen due to: Low Distribution: The program is new, has limited downloads, or is not commonly used, so SmartScreen hasn't built a trust profile for it. Missing Digital Signature: The program lacks a valid digital signature from a trusted certificate authority, which verifies the publisher's identity. Suspicious Behavior: The program exhibits characteristics similar to malware, such as unusual file modifications, network activity, or code obfuscation. New or Modified Files: A recently compiled or updated program may not yet be recognized by

While working with Rocket COBOL (Micro Focus COBOL) , I encountered the following error: 87 Micro Focus COBOL Community Edition usage period has expired I would like to understand why this issue occurs and what can be done to prevent it. Does this message indicate that the license has expired? If so, is there a way to extend it? I am using this tool with Visual Studio Code. Excited to be sharing some of the highlights from the recent COBOL Days in Australia! Two COBOL Day events took place this week: one on Wednesday in Melbourne, and one on Thursday in Sydney. We have a file generated in MFED where the file contains X , 9 and COMP-3 data. When we looked at them thru data tools , it looks good. But , when we transfer the file to IBM mainframes (used both ASCII and BI ) , it's not looking like a usable file. We have the dialect as ASCII . Hello, Greetings of the day. I am now trying to setup Visual Cobol Personal Edition for Eclipse on Ubuntu (by using Windows Subsystem for Linux). I have been able to configure as much as possible, however, while trying to setup some things, I am seeing it is NOT working. Please see below: I set the COBCPY command to point to different folders/sub-folders (for copy codes - folders are outside of the source folder), exported COBCPY and verified the environment - it's showing accurately - however, while accessing the copy codes - the program is unable to pick those copy books (different folders that are NOT in the program source folder). PLEASE IGNORE THIS 2nd point - got it resolved - While creating indexed data files, looks like the default IDXFORMAT is being used, however, there is NO separate ".IDX" file for the index. I tried setting the "extfh.cfg" - unfortunately, though I export and have the environment in place - this is NOT being read OR there is NO change in the way the progr

I am teaching a Cobol class and today we downloaded/installed Visual Studio 2022 Community, 17.14.2.  We also installed MicroFocus 2022_100.  No errors appeared but when I create a project, I don't have the int/gnt template I need to create our Cobol program.  Students with an older version of VS 17.12.4 are not having this issue. In a migration we're performing, we have this difference: we have Cobol programs in Server Express 5.1 and signed variables (not comp); after execution, when viewing the output file, the field displays the sign at the end of the variable. That same program in Visual Cobol 10 generates output but without displaying the sign at the end of the variable (an example is attached). We modified compiler features and resolved the appearance of the sign, but the record length increases. Therefore, we must review the use of this file with the new length. The question is: What parameter do we include in the compiler to correctly generate the record with the sign of the variable without increasing the length? Hi, We're a very small company that has an app used by a few local school districts that we *think* was last built with Micro Focus Visual COBOL for Visual Studio 2013 that needs a small change to extend some calendars and then be recompiled.  The app runs on Windows.  However, the developer's health/memory ( who built and maintained the app for the last 35 years) has deteriorated such that he is no longer able to do so.  He's only able to tell us that he used Visual Studio 2013 to edit the source and ran some command via the Windows Command prompt to compile it.  He last compiled it in 2022. So, needless to say, we could use home help.  And, of course, we need this done in the next couple of weeks.  We know very little about Cobol (though I am a .NET web developer).  Ideally, someone here would be willing to do some freelance work to compile the app for us.  If we can't find someone to help, then we'd need some pointers on where to start and try to do it ourselves using VS Code .

There is a difference in the size of the .gnt file generated when compiling the same component for two different environments (Test and Production). The same compiler is used, with varying input copy assignment paths and compiled object delivery paths. We have compared the compiler lines and found that they are identical and contain the same instructions. I appreciate your support and guidance in identifying the difference and successfully delivering compiled objects with the same file sizes for both environments.
