Hi everyone, I'm very new to Host Access and D3. We're currently working in a D3 Pick environment using the TCL (Terminal Command Language) prompt, and I need to learn everything from scratch. I do have access to Rocket Software's D3 reference manuals, but they're quite large and a bit overwhelming to read cover to cover. Could anyone please suggest the best places to find learning materials - especially video tutorials that cover basic concepts, TCL commands, creating simple programs, and understanding how everything works with real examples? I really prefer videos or more practical, hands-on resources rather than just manuals. I have a few vb apps in place.  My latest one of works in vb 2022 but fails when when I install it in on another computer. I recently was part of a discussion regarding the use of parenthesis with a SELECT statement. My understanding was that parenthesis were not evaluated with respect to AND and OR logic. Is that correct? Looking in the online documentation, the only mention (that I could find) regarding parenthesis use was in relation to OPTIONS. Specifically the the open parenthesis indicated the beginning of an OPTIONS clause and that a close parenthesis could be used to end the clause and that the OPTIONS clause should always be at the end of the statement. If that is the only allowed use for parenthesis then: Why are parenthesis allowed to be used at all in a SELECT statement as follows:SELECT FILE WITH 1 EQ "ABC" AND ( WITH 2 EQ "123" OR WITH 3 EQ "XYZ" )This command executes without an error? Ever get on a D3 system and run WHERE LZ looking for stuff but get barraged by PIBs in some normal status? I have an Access database that currently connects to the SQLDEMO tables. That's great. When I look at the server running D3, I see the SQLDEMO folder in the D3Databases folder. Fine So now I want to connect to some live data. Specifically the inventory tables. I have lots of documentation, but I can't seem to find the steps to make the tables visible to my odbc dsn. The folder I think I am after is the MISPR folder. If I'm correct, how do I get access to the values in the tables? What's the most efficient/fastest way to securely get data in/out of a jBase system? The last time I had to do this, we wrote a CGI interface and accessed the system via HTTPS. This time, we have no need for the full CGI environment, we just need to parse some JSON data, and return a JSON response.  Similarly, MVIS is overkill. Is there a "jClient", like there is with qm? We could just listen to a port, but the inbound connections will be coming from multiple clients, so we really don't want to run multiple transactions through the same process. We like the statelessness of separate connections.  Since jBase apps compile to OS executables, the current thought is to establish an ssh connection, with keys, run the appropriate routine, return the JSON and then exit.  We're wondering if there's something simpler.  ------------------------------Raymond DeGennaroOwnerSelf RegisteredBelvidere IL US------------------------------

I recently discovered that d3vme /fileload on D3 Windows does NOT build indexes in the FSI accounts. VME accounts only. This was discovered when working with someone who was using d3vme /fileload on D3 Linux 10.4, since entering d3 from a Linux prompt then taking the F option is no longer the way to restore the system. The problem was further masked by the fact that list-index DOES show all of the index references even though the indexes never got built. This is because the index references in a file's D-pointer (file-defining item) get restored when the file is restored, but no further action is taken. The way around this is to run indexer from TCL in the DM account after the file-load is complete. Indexer reads all of the index references in the D-pointers and builds the indexes accordingly. As of now, we are treating this as a documentation issue since this has always behaved this way and the work-around is quite simple. I would appreciate any comments from anyone who uses d3vme /fi

d3 all versions. To my knowledge, this has been around forever; but it has always been something I thought was totally inconsistent: File A and File B are related to each other. An attribute on File B is a mv. From File A I wish to use a dictionary item that returns that File B attribute; and so use a t-correlative such as:T(FILEB;X;;n)where n is the integer amc number of the attribute on File B I want. This works perfectly if n is single valued; but if n is multi-valued the result is all the values delimited by a <space>; not returned as a mv. Why? It strikes me this is entirely inconsistent with mv principles. Now, with that said; is there a way around this in a dictionary item [apart from doing a call subroutine] using F or A type syntax? I inherited an old MVBase system running on windows.  I tried SH and CMD and cannot shell out.  Is this possible?  Also, I would like to make a file pointer to a directory in windows.  Is this possible?  I found that I can use a UOPEN to open an os file and write to a file.

We are using the descriptive internal information about programs, specifically last date ran and number of times ran since last compiled. This information doesn't seem to be accurate in all cases. Our theory is if an external subroutine is flash compiled, and the calling program is flash compiled, these don't get updated. I originally posted this in August of 2022. I'm reposting because 1) it's getting closer to 2030, and 2) I've had a few support cases asking about this issue. Everyone out there know about D3's SET-DATE-WINDOW utility? It's something you can add to your cold start procedure to change the 2-digit year pivot point from 30 to something else. Example if you ICONV a date like 8/1/31, you'll get an internal date in the year 1931, not 2031 as you might expect. I have this in my USER-COLDSTART: SET-DATE-WINDOW 60 This tells my D3 system to assume that any two-digit years from 00 to 59 are 2000 to 2059, where 60 to 99 are 1960 to 1999. This is a LOT handier than handling it in your application. I'm posting this because there's a lot of useful stuff in D3 that I was unaware of until I became a Rocket employee and was actually forced to read the manual.
