Rocket® D3® and jBASE®

Brian Cram November 14, 2024 The Rocket® D3® MVS Toolkit versions 2.2.3.121 and earlier required activation. We no longer have the ability to activate those versions. If you are running an older version, we highly recommend that you upgrade. If you decide to continue to run on the older version, at least make sure you have a current Web Service Export just in case your Toolkit installation breaks, and you are forced to upgrade. A Web Service Export is much like a Pick file-save: hopefully you never need it, but if you do, you'll be glad you have it! Upgrading the MVS Toolkit has more benefit that just removing the need for activation. The older Toolkit versions use Jetty and Java versions that have been deprecated because of security issues. If you have questions or need help upgrading, please contact Rocket D3 support.

I've noticed that a number of lppick processes are hanging around long after they should have exited.  I've seen this in v9, but I figured it was just a bug that would get resolved with v10.3.4.  Apparently not. :( Example: In the past, I've just killed these processes but before I go about that this time, I wanted to find out if there was something I can do to ensure that it doesn't keep happening. I should note that this isn't isolated to one of my plants - here's the list from my other plant: Both hosts are on RHEL 9.4 and using D3 v10.3.4. What do I need to do in order to keep these orphan processes from stacking up? We run d3 on an Windows Server 2008 Can someone describe how to move d3 to a new server (windows 2012)? eg;  Download installer to create the d3 environment Move live data from current server to new server. Explain how the license which allows the application to run is transferred to the new server. We're looking to upgrade to jBASE 6.2.1.1 but ran into a problem with printed output.  I believe I can solve this problem using SP-TRANSLATE.  Is there documentation more specific than what I could find on the website?  I would like details how to create the translation table and where it should be stored.  Thanks. We are aware of problems with the jBASE 5.8, 5.9, and 6.1 documentation libraries that prevent some topics from being displayed. We are working with the portal vendor and our team to correct the issues as soon as possible. The work around is to use the documentation in the restructured jBASE 6.2 publications, which do not have the same problem as the older versions.  We added an announcement banner about this at the top of the documentation portal as well. Currently (as far as I'm aware), the newest version of the MVSP .NET API is using Framework 4.8, which is incredibly old (but still supported).  Are there any plans to move the MVSP API to a more current version of .NET? The current Rocket D3 Online Documentation Library has been moved to the Rocket Product Documentation portal, and traffic to the current portal will be redirected to the new doc home by January 6, 2025. You may or may not be familiar with the primary Rocket Product Documentation portal, where all of the Rocket product documentation is served and supported by a robust set of AI features that help users find and manage their product docs.  The D3 family of documentation is now available here, and you can bookmark this link for future reference.  You can also quickly get to the D3 documentation from the portal home page by clicking the letter 'D' under  Find Your Product, and then selecting your D3 product. Edit for posterity: Windows 11 runs Viaduct just fine. I'm not sure what went wrong on the first install, but after uninstalling and reinstalling it works. Have also installed on a second PC, which is also running fine. Our office uses Viaduct 2000 installed on Windows 10 to access the D3 instance on the server. I know there's newer and better emulators out there but it's always worked for us and we've never had a need to for anything else. With W10 support coming to an end and needing to upgrade to Windows 11, I tried installing Viaduct on a PC with Windows 11. It installed fine, but when I try to open it, it just has an error message.  My question is, are any of you running Viaduct on Windows 11? Had a case today where the mvBase 3.3.2 installer would not run on a Windows 11 box. They were trying to install the workstation component. The installer just hung and never made it to the Welcome screen, even though they "ran as administrator" but not logged in as an admin user. We fixed the issue by logging onto the Window 11 box as the local administrator. Then everything ran fine. This is a gentle reminder to ALWAYS be logged on as a local admin user when running the installer. ------------------------------Brian S. I'm changing the UI of an app from a classic D3 character based UI to a Java Swing app using MVSP Java to talk to D3. I've got a slight architectural problem I'm hoping someone might have some insight into. All the character based programs include an unnamed common block which keeps file descriptors, screen and prompt info etc. All hotkeys can be defined to start a program, so if you are in any input field pressing a hotkey will start a new program and after that program finishes the screen is refreshed back to where you were. A unnamed common block works well, because when the hotkey program is executed, a level is pushed, and because the common block is unnamed, the pushed program gets it's own copy of common and can execute independently of the program that started the pushed program. There a 2 issues: (1) a subroutine cannot declare an unnamed common if the calling program hasn't first, and (2) if you use named common, this is global for all pushed levels during a login session. we've recently upgraded our D3 / Flashconnect from Centos7 & D3 10.1 to Almalinux 9.4 & D3 10.3.4. flashconnect has been version 3.9 throughout. everything seems to be working fine except for one thing, which worked on the old set-up and doesn't seem to be working on the new one. the issue is when the client follows a link that takes to a different cgi-bin script on our server. that scrip lets them upload files to the webserver, and contains a <form> link back to where they left off on flashconnect. this has worked perfectly for us for more years than i can remember, the return to flashconnect has always been seemless thanks to a single cookie with the w3profileid stored in the client browser. on the new system however, when they return to fccgi.exe instead of ending up where they should they're getting a logon screen that seems to be generated by wbp w3logonscreen and i have no idea why that's happening. i don't know what's calling that subroutine so i'm not sure how to

My org uses a "zero trust" connectivity product called "Zscaler".  It's effectively a replacement for the VPN we used to use for remote users. Ever since Zscaler was implemented, there's been periodic connectivity issues with our D3 systems - they're disconnecting a client connection within milliseconds of accepting it.  Recently, this problem has become dramatically worse - to the point where it's affecting business operations.  People in billing aren't able to connect for hours at a time. It occurred to me today that it might be a licensing problem on the D3 side.  All the problematic connections are being made via MVSP on port 9000. Because of how Zscaler works, all the connections that travel over the Zscaler network are going to hit our servers from the same IP address.  I'm wondering if D3 isn't seeing that and will start denying connections from the same IP address after the connections reach a certain threshold.  Is this possible? i have FCService running ok on our almalinux 9.4 server, but i notice its binding to 0.0.0.0 which i'm sure is ideal when your D3 & Flashconnect are running on separate hardware. in our case they're on the same physical box, so i'd prefer if I could get FCService to bind to 127.0.0.1 instead. (like TLLicMgr does) is this possible? can i use something like a bind: command in flashconnect.conf? or maybe the port statement, instead of port 1505 would port 127.0.0.1:1505 work? thanks in advance!

I have some very vague memory that there's an attribute in a compiled item that indicates whether or not it's been FlashBASIC compiled or not.  Unfortunately, I don't remember what it was, and it's not obvious. :) Here's an example that I know for sure does not use FlashBASIC: Here's an example of a program that's compile with FlashBASIC: Is attribute 12 being > 0 indicate a FlashBASIC compiled program?  The reason I'm chasing this down is that I'm migrating from D3 v9.0.0 to v10.3.4 and I've got a lot of stuff that has to be recompiled due to the FlashBASIC changes, but I've got even more that can't be FlashBASIC compiled.  (does it need to be "normal" compiled due to the version change?)
